Coordinator of Student Activities & Orientation


The Coordinator of Student Activities & Orientation is one of the professionals who comprise the Office of Student Activities and Orientation. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Activities and Orientation, the Coordinator's position will have a strong focus on developing and assisting student clubs and organizations, including direct work with membership, leadership teams, and advisors. Additionally, the Coordinator will work with the professional staff of the Office of Student Activities and Orientation to produce, deliver, and support student leadership development programs, orientation programs and campus-wide programming efforts.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee student clubs and organizations, including new student clubs and organizations, and the annual registration process; support and assist the leadership of student clubs and organizations including individual consulting, tracking student club and organization spending, and presenting leadership workshops on organizational issues. Advise the Yearbook club and other specific student clubs and organizations as needed. Maintain and enforce club and organization manuals and policies. Collaborate with the Student Government Association for club funding and spending.
  • Hire, train, and supervise the Activities Assistants. Oversee the daily office functions and staffing at specific events. Develop and oversee Office of Student Activities & Orientation discounted ticket sale program.
  • Oversee many of the day-to-day financial tasks for the Office, including reconciliation of petty cash, tracking invoices, and ensuring payment of invoices; assist in the preparation of the monthly credit card reconciliation forms.
  • Assist with all student leadership development programming and be the key facilitator and coordinator of the Exploring Leadership program. Assist with the programming associated with the various new student orientation programs, including Orientation Leader training.
  • Coordinate the bi-annual Activities Fairs. Assist in the planning and implementation of Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend, the Annual Awards Banquet, and the Torchlight Parade & Senior Soiree. Work together with the Assistant Director to produce welcome programming and the Sophomore Connection. Work with staff in the Office of Student Activities to create and deliver social/educational programming that includes a vibrant calendar of evening and weekend activities, both on- and off-campus. Staffing events and programs as needed.
  • Communication: Division of Academic & Student Affairs, Institutional Advancement, Plant Operations, Information Technology, Campus Police, Business Office, Food services, Housekeeping, Artist Agencies, Outside Vendors, and Enrollment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE JOB:

Bachelor's degree required, master's degree in a related field (higher education; student development; counseling) strongly preferred.

Computer skills: Microsoft Office, competence or ability to learn to use databases and other forms of electronic communication and social networking. Preference to have experience with Engage or other club management portal.

Other Requirements of the Job:

One to two years of relevant experience; understanding of student development theory and its application in practice; ability to maintain a website; demonstrated interest and competency working with student groups; frequent evening and weekend availability are required.
