The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's College of Natural Resources is searching for an Assistant Professor in Interpretation. The successful applicant will continue to build and lead the natural/cultural history interpretation portion of an undergraduate environmental education and interpretation program (EE/I) that is accredited through the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE). Teaching responsibilities within the EE/I and Wildlife Education programs include courses in oral interpretation methods, interpretive media and a capstone environmental education and interpretation practicum at Schmeeckle Reserve and the Central Wisconsin Environmental Station, two CNR field stations. Additional teaching responsibilities may include lecture or discussion for introductory natural resources courses; cross-discipline courses on social science research methods, organizational leadership, or public relations and communication; and online courses for students enrolled in the Master of Natural Resources degree program. Other duties include undergraduate and graduate student advising, and participation on University and College committees. Opportunities exist for involvement in research, outreach and international programs to meet University scholarship and service requirements. A desire to work with diverse populations of learners and stakeholders is expected.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in interpretation and/or environmental education or a related field earned or near completion. Earned doctorate will be required prior to the second retention decision (approximately 18 months after hire).
  • Demonstrated experience in university teaching, providing professional development trainings, or delivering public environmental education/interpretation programs.
  • Experience using a variety of computer software and online teaching platforms.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Proven skill in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Applied experience in natural/cultural history interpretation or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, write, and design interpretive media for general audiences.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion within the field of interpretation and experience in working with diverse populations of learners and clients.
  • Experience communicating effectively to large or small groups, online and in-person, through a variety of media and technologies.
  • Proven record of conducting and publishing research in interpretation or a related field.
