Assistant or Associate Professor in Real Estate and Finance

Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Position Overview

The School of Business at Menlo College seeks applicants for a full-time faculty position in the area of Real Estate. A well-qualified candidate at a rank appropriate to the credentials of the applicant will teach in the Real Estate program as well as the Finance undergraduate program.

 

Position Description:

Menlo College School of Business Assistant or Associate Professor of Real Estate and Finance major. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of courses in Real Estate. The successful candidate must have completed an earned doctorate in Real Estate or a related field. Candidates who are currently doctoral students must be on course to complete all degree requirements by July 30, 2022.

 

The School of Business is open to research and teaching interests in areas related to the applicant’s strengths, which could include property, asset and portfolio management, affordable housing, transit-oriented development, sustainable design, and development, state and local public policy impacting real estate and development, property risk management and insurance, as well as the more traditional areas of finance, investment, valuation, appraisal, and market analysis.

 

We seek an individual excited about collaborating to develop and deliver innovative, practice-grounded learning experiences, teaching students in the real estate program as well as finance majors, conducting high-quality research, and being an active part of a community of scholars. The business world is in a time of great change. The Bay Area’s Silicon Valley is at the epicenter of these changes; here at Menlo College we have a great opportunity – and responsibility – to prepare our students to make a positive impact in the world. Currently, there are no undergraduate real estate major programs in the Bay Area, and there is a great opportunity for outreach to the real estate industry and Menlo alumni who are active in real estate.

 

Expectations of the Ideal Candidate

• Come equipped with relevant work experience and/or research directly related to the practice of real estate

• Identify areas of interest in real estate as a basis for an active research agenda

• Possess expertise in one or more key areas of real estate as well as finance

• Have a working knowledge of commercial real estate

• Be active in one or more real estate professional associations such as ULI, NAIOP, ICSC, NAREIT, CCIM, BOMA, IREM, etc.

• Experience with establishing or expanding a real estate center or institute

 

Key Responsibilities

• Teach at the intersection of practical Real Estate and Finance

• Produce and maintain scholarship that is grounded in business practice

• Engage actively in shared governance and other service assignments

• Mentor and advise undergraduate students

• Contribute to curriculum assessment as needed

• Participate in a collaborative and supportive environment with colleagues who have substantial business experience and research expertise

• Participate in courses and programs that are project-based collaborations between

students, faculty, and local companies

• Serve as faculty advisor for the student real estate club, coordinate the Real Estate Center@Menlo College [TREC] annual symposium

• Build relationships with real estate organizations and act as a liaison to professionals in real estate in the Bay Area
