Position Summary:
Willamette University is recruiting for an Assistant or Associate Director of Admission; candidates will be evaluated for both roles and the position will be filled at a level appropriate to the skills and experience of the selected candidate. The Assistant/Associate Director of Admission serves as a member of the Recruitment Team, performing duties related to territory management and minor special projects. The Assistant/Associate Director represents the University to external constituents including prospective students, families, counselors, and colleagues, and also works with internal campus constituents including students, faculty, and staff. All job responsibilities will be performed with the primary goal of advancing the University's enrollment and net revenue goals.

The Assistant/Associate Director participates in all admission-related activities including the management of an admission territory
  • Plan and execute a travel schedule that is data-driven, creative, and focused on both application generation and yield, including: high school visitations and off-campus interviews; college fairs, workshops, and counselor events; management of territory-specific off-campus events
  • Communicate and interact proactively, consistently, genuinely, and in a timely fashion with students and families from their designated territory: to encourage application and participation in the visit program; to encourage continued interest throughout the application process; to affect yield of admitted students through daily communication strategies
  • Participate as members of the Admission Committee including: review of student credentials and admission recommendations; participation in merit scholarship recommendations
  • Support the successful execution of on-campus visit programs through participation in: counselor of the day responsibilities; session presentations or moderation of panels during major events; preparation for major events in any way required of the Visit & Events Team
  • The Assistant/Associate Director is also responsible for contributing to the overall recruitment strategy by managing a special project
  • The Assistant Director will support team work as a member of one internal team; the Associate Director will serve on one internal team, with the possibility of leading an internal team depending on assignment
  • Travels 8-10 weeks in the fall; 1-2 weeks in the spring
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrates the highest professional demeanor and ethical behavior while representing the University
  • Exercises discretion to safeguard the confidentiality of student, staff and University information
  • Supports and participates in all associated recruitment initiatives
  • Formulates individual correspondence in coordination with overall communication campaigns
  • Meets or exceeds enrollment goals from designated travel territory
  • The Associate Director is responsible for management of Admission Counselors

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working in admissions or related field, preferably from an independent residential liberal arts college.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to describe University programs and campus culture. The ability to articulate the value and benefits of a liberal arts education to a variety of audiences is essential.
  • The ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain collegial relations with other University staff, faculty and students.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as a member of a close and integrated team of admission professionals.
  • The ability to plan, organize and implement programs and projects related to the University's enrollment goals.
  • Technology skills to support territory management, daily contact with students, faculty, staff and others, and to support the goals and mission of the University, are essential.
  • The Assistant Director needs to have an appreciation for college-age students and the varied nature and expectations of serving that population.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity and an ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures and backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of a University environment and undergraduate admission.
  • Displaying a sincere appreciation for people of under-represented backgrounds and a loyal commitment to the University's mission.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a second language.
  • Experience with Slate CRM (Technolutions)
  • Experience in recruiting special populations like international students or transfers.
