Controller II - Divisional

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
The Divisional Controller is responsible for providing professional accounting services requiring an experienced, professional knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Responsible for monitoring revenues and expenses preparing financial statements, budget reports and other reports to aid in planning, financial affairs and decision making. Establishes and reconciles budgets and indexes; manages business and financial affairs; develops and maintaining competitor intelligence on similar programs. Identifies key gaps in financial data and reports and develops solutions. Evaluates journal entries and reconciles assigned indexes. This leader is charged with overseeing accounting, reporting, financial analysis, and budget monitoring for the individual programs of the division. This includes management of support staff as needed. The Divisional Controller is also responsible for finance and accounting security, implementation and review of internal controls, financial training, and assisting the Associate Provost with his or her management responsibilities. Leads with year-end closing and inventory counts to ensure adjustments and accruals are properly recorded. Reviews transactions for accuracy, correct funding, and proper approvals. Advises management and appropriate administrator regarding financial matters. Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus three to five years of related experience, including two years of supervisory experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling at least seven years.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge

· Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures, internal auditing, internal controls, auditing principles and fund accounting.· Knowledge of theories and techniques involved in analysis of financial data.· Knowledge of computer systems and software, including spreadsheets, word processing, graphics presentation, developing dashboards, accounting software, and Windows operating systems. · Knowledge of Banner and University policies and procedures related to accounting, budgeting, and purchasing.

Skills

· Strong analytical and technical accounting skills. Experience with accounting software and all Microsoft Office applications is required. Oracle experience would be helpful.· Must be a strong team player, highly motivated, and have the ability to perform technical accounting tasks and functions in a fast-paced environment. · Skills with problem-solving, decision-making, human relations, and supervision.· Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.· Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.· Experience working and thriving in a change environment and overcoming obstacles.

Abilities

· Ability to review, analyze, and prepare accurate financial reports and budgets.· Ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to a non-technical audience. · Ability to approach problem-solving analytically, creatively, and with innovation.· Flexibility, multi-tasking, creative thinking, good business judgment, strong organizational & communication skills. Ability to make sound business judgments in resolving generally understood and/or more complex issues. Ability to develop relationships with diverse groups and various levels of financial and operating personnel.· Ability to work with various databases and create a clear financial picture, analyses, forecast, and measurable outcomes.· Ability to communicate, written and orally.· Ability to respond meet deadlines, timely communication and follow-through.



Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in business, accounting, or finance. Experience in Banner systems and university procedures. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.



Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a normal office environment.

Pay Range: $57,499 - $71,874
