Professional Tutor – Intensive Math Lab (Part Time)

 

Menlo College is seeking individuals with a passion for mentoring and motivating students to support its Intensive Math Lab program.

 

Candidates selected for the position of Intensive Math Lab Tutor will work with students enrolled in Menlo’s introductory math course, Math 100 (Elementary/Intermediate Algebra) to improve their understanding of course content, support them as they complete class assignments, and guide them through additional practice as needed.

 

The Intensive Math Lab is an integrated tutoring program that is part of the coursework requirement for Math 100; the goal of the program is to improve retention and student success in the course through individualized support for at-risk students. The program also seeks to provide mentorship and guidance, introducing students to the academic resources available to support their educational development, in order to establish long-term habits of engagement that will pave the way for students to thrive in their later academic careers.

 

Intensive Math Lab Tutors report directly to the Associate Director of Student Academic Support.

 

Menlo College is a diverse four-year undergraduate college with majors in business and psychology. The college is located in the heart of Silicon Valley which allows students a variety of internship experiences and real world learning. Menlo’s School of Business Administration is AACSB accredited.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

• Attend regularly scheduled one-hour tutoring sessions

• Work with students one-on-one or in groups to provide guidance on assignments for Math 100 (Elementary/Intermediate Algebra), or related content

• Follow procedures for record keeping of content and attendance for each tutoring session

• Actively engage students to ensure they are making progress during each tutoring session

• Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all students

• Attend tutor training sessions and abide by best practices outlined in training, as well as in all written materials provided by supervisors

 

Qualifications

• Previous teaching, tutoring, or mentoring experience

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Attention to detail and strong work ethic

• Master’s degree in Math or related field preferred
