Associate Vice President for Marketing and Branding


Coastal Carolina University is accepting applications for the Associate Vice President for Marketing and Branding (Administrator). 


Reporting to the Vice President for Executive Initiatives/Chief of Staff, this position serves as the primary marketing administrator for the University. The Associate Vice President is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the University's strategic marketing initiatives and outcomes; manages the University's trademark and licensing program; provides leadership for creative services and the social media channels managed by University Marketing and Communication and serves as the main point of contact for all advertising and media vendors and suppliers.


A successful candidate must demonstrate strong knowledge in the following areas: 

  • Broad knowledge of the higher education market, as well as a university’s diverse audiences; 
  • Comprehensive marketing strategy (including digital) experience with social media, advertising, and email to expand the brand;
  • University branding practices; and,
  • Management and organizational concepts. 


A successful candidate must demonstrate abilities in the following areas:

  • Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills; and,
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Duties include, but are not limited to:  responsible for the implementation, coordination, measurement, and evaluation of the University’s strategic marketing initiatives and outcomes in accordance with University strategy; manage departmental operations – including supervisory responsibilities for marketing and licensing, creative services, social media and web content management; manage responsibilities including budget and staff management, traditional, online, digital advertising/marketing and social media campaigns; manage the University’s trademark and licensing program in collaboration with the University licensing partner and maintain the trademarks with University Counsel; oversee relationships with external marketing and branding partners; responsible for the creation and tracking of marketing statistics, trends and data reports; work closely with senior leadership to develop a data-driven culture; responsible for maintaining and promoting institution-wide brand consistency; collaborate on special projects as a senior leader of the University Marketing and Communication creative team as assigned by the Vice President;  and other duties as assigned.


Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field and a minimum of three (3) to six (6) years of experience in marketing, communications, or data management/analysis, along with staff management experience are required. A master's degree, three (3) years of experience in marketing/communications in higher education, and extensive experience with advertising and media planning, placement, and purchasing are preferred.  Expertise in branding, social media, mobile marketing, marketing analytics, CMS software, social listening software, market research, web design, SEO strategy, and search ads are also preferred.
