Do you want an opportunity to help build a new eLearning team? Do you want to manage and produce creative work? How much knowledge do you have about eLearning development tools, processes, and best practices?

If you answered yes, yes, and a lot; then this role might be the right one for you. We are seeking an eLearning Development Supervisor which is an entirely new role on the Teaching & Learning Media Team at the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School.

The main focus of the media team is to develop instructional, engaging, and high-quality media to support the development of brand-new online courses and to update existing online courses.

To succeed in this role, you should have management experience coupled with a passion for creating interactive content such as: branching scenario simulations, interactive video, interactive graphics, quizzes, and interactive 360 photos/video. You should enjoy optimizing production processes by finding the right tools, designing new ways to work, and advocating for the work that balances engaging your team and meeting the needs of our courses.

The eLearning Team will consist of:

  • A Graphic Designer: someone who can both produce independent work for courses or assist with design elements in interactive content.
  • 2 eLearning Development Specialists; team members who may have a background in instructional design but who are specifically passionate about media production using tools like Storyline 360.

This role is based in the Baltimore are but has flexibility for up to 2 days remote per week.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Leadership and Development [35%]

  • Supervise and support full time eLearning development experts to achieve T&L goals
  • Train, coach and mentor team members to achieve established performance goals and objectives
  • Oversee work of professional Graphic Designer, allocating this resource to best fit the needs of the media team
  • Manage a team that may work remotely as well as onsite across two campuses (Harbor East and DC)
  • Manage staff project assignments to ensure T&L media team needs are met

Interactive ELearning Content Development for Courses [35%]

  • Assist with the development of interactive projects including scoping the required resources and timeline to meet project timelines with quality results
  • Must be able to leverage stock images, photo editing skills, basic video editing skills to compile multimedia elements within an interactive authoring program like Articulate Storyline/Adobe Captivate
  • Produce quality eLearning course material, including PowerPoint slides, diagrams, interactive exercises, and assessments
  • Create/edit graphics in Photoshop
  • When needed, perform basic video editing in Adobe Premiere
  • Routinely test interactive templates and work using a screen reader to ensure accessibility standards are met
  • Incorporate accessibility standards and assets into all interactive design such as: alternative text for images, captions for short videos, etc.
  • Take part of the QA process for other multimedia team projects

Faculty/Staff Training and Development [15%]

  • Develops asynchronous training materials (print, web, and video) around using video and multimedia objects for the development of Faculty and Staff.
  • Assist with training faculty and staff about interactive development processes and best practices

Graphic Design Consultation and Collaboration [5%]

  • Consult with Graphic Designer to understand and develop new and innovative opportunities to integrate high quality visually engaging graphics into the work of the Production team.
  • Collaborate with Producers and Graphic Designer to ensure graphics maintain and enhance brand adherence for all media content produced by Teaching and Learning professionals

Quality Assurance of 3rd Party Developers [5%]

  • Reviews 3rd party interactive content for quality and consistency as needed.

Other duties as assigned [5%]

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university preferably with concentration in Instructional Design, Interactive Media, Learning Systems,Education, Adult Learning, Communication, or related field required.
  • Three years related experience required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate.
  • Portfolio with relevant work experience and examples required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient with the use of Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate.
  • Experience using H5P or ability to quickly learn new interactive content authoring software
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and other applications to create/modify media for interactive development.
  • Proficiency in coding (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Strong managerial experience

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Advanced technical skills and experience with Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare written communication with an attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and experience with eLearning technical standards (SCORM, AICC, xAPI)
  • Experience with incorporating accessibility requirements such as WCAG 2.0 AA standards.

JHU Equivalency Formula:30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Starting Salary Range: $51,210 - $70,480 annually (commensurate with experience)
Employee group: Full Time
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30-5pm plus evenings and weekends as needed to accommodate production schedule
