Normal Work Schedule:

Job Summary:

The Senior Database Administrator provides superior technical leadership and is the lead database administrator in the oversight of the complex database administration assignments that are essential to the production and development of database management systems (DBMS) applications. Maximizes the reliability, availability, security, and performance of production database management systems. Organizes, installs, and maintains the enterprise database software and multiple applications and database environments to include hardware and network and interface implications. The Senior Database Administrator designs state-of-the-art technological methods to migrate, implement, store, and analyze data while ensuring connectivity and compatibility between new and existing database management systems. Forecasts the University’s future technological needs and direction and optimizes its capacity and performance.  Exercises considerable independent judgment.

Essential Functions:

·         Works closely with administrators and the technical staff to schedule changes and upgrades, and ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems, respectively.

·         Creates standards and guidelines for use in acquiring software and protecting vulnerable material.

·         Amends existing databases and DBMS or directs subordinates to do so.

·         Tests programs or databases, corrects errors, and makes any modifications.

·         Monitors nightly and monthly data loads from the Banner databases to Oracle Operational Data Store  (ODS). 

·         Plans, coordinates, and implements security measures. Directs all security facets of Banner system; creates banner security classes.

·         Approves, schedules, plans, and supervises the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems. 

·         Conducts user training.

·         Assigns users and user access levels for each segment of the database.

·         Following procedures and utilizing pen, template, or computer software, develops data model describing data elements and how they are used.

·         Develops methods for integrating different products to ensure efficiency.

·         Ensures assignments are performed in accordance with database administration guidelines, standards, and procedures for applications development, implementation, testing, and migration.

·         Installs new versions of DMBS and related software.

·         Researches, plans, installs, configures, troubleshoots, maintains and upgrades software interfaces.

·         Monitors and administers DBMS security. 

·         Administers existing enterprise databases and the analysis, design, and creation of new databases.

·         Proactively monitors systems for optimum performance and capacity constraints.

·         Tracks the progress of projects/tasks via a ticketing system.

·         Establishes standards and best practices for SQL

·         Upgrades and installs patches to both Oracle and all Banner products that reside on the Oracle database.  

·         Writes and modifies SHL and PLSQL scripts that supply data to other systems across campus; Authors and adjusts SHL scripts to run PLSQL jobs.

·        Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related field,

·         Seven (7) years of experience in the administration of database management system,

·         Expertise in a variety of programming/scripting languages,

·         IBM-compatible computers and Microsoft Windows/Office software applications knowledge, and

·         Knowledge of database software, particularly Oracle and SQL Server, and Internet applications
