DIRECTOR OF WELLNESS & HEALTH PROMOTION

Louisiana State University invites applications for the position of Director of Wellness & Health Promotion. Reporting to the Executive Director of the LSU Student Health Center, the Director of Wellness and Health Promotion is responsible for providing strategic leadership for initiatives that enhance the LSU student experience through the promotion of health and wellness.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE

  • Serves as a key member of the Student Health Center Senior Leadership Team and possesses a deep appreciation for a collaborative care model
  • Demonstrates a commitment to advancing the divisional priorities of quality, inclusion and access, mattering and belonging
  • Ensures the design, delivery, and assessment of effective wellness coaching and nutrition counseling, education and outreach that promotes resilience, reduces learning barriers, and supports student retention and success for a campus of approximately 34,000 students
  • Cultivates strategic partnerships and serve on teams to address challenges, enhance the environment, and plan for the growing needs of the campus community.

The Director will facilitate strategic and structural changes to support innovation in health promotion. There is an opportunity to play a role in bridging silos, modeling behavior, and driving communication that sets a tone of innovation. The Director will facilitate constructive disruption that helps to reimagine how we engage and educate students to promote health and change behavior.

Cultivate strategic partnerships
Achieving health and wellness is a community commitment. The Director will cultivate strategic partnerships in an effort to understand and appreciate the unique student population needs, build trust and confidence and target initiatives. There is an opportunity to strengthen relationships with departments and colleges across campus and with key stakeholders in the Baton Rouge community to improve student wellbeing and ultimately retention and success.

Invest in collaborative care
The Director will be part of a collaborative care team within the Student Health Center, including medical, mental health and business leaders. There are opportunities to leverage discipline diversity and expertise to improve treatment and prevention efforts. Leading with a spirit of collaboration, the Director will address all dimensions of wellness and advance the concept of levels of care.

Commit to assessment and continuous improvement
The Director will employ the robust data available to target programming and educational efforts on campus and assess the impact on behavior change and risk reduction. As a key professional within the Student Health Center helping lead assessment efforts, the Director will mine data to guide the leadership team in identifying better ways to approach care, with a goal of doing the work better and making the services more accessible and inclusive.

ABOUT THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS PRIORITIES:

Three priorities guide our work in the Division of Student Affairs: mattering & belonging, inclusion & access and quality. Being inclusive and accessible in our work means that as our student body begins to more closely reflect the diversity of our state, it is our duty to design programs, services, events, and experiences with everyone in mind. Every interaction we have with them should communicate care, relevance, polish, and attention to detail.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Wellness and Health Promotion Leadership (50%)

Provide leadership to ensure the provision of wellness and health promotion services that adhere to the highest professional standards and best practices in college health, including overseeing the delivery of nutrition counseling, wellness coaching, case management services and wellness programming, training, and outreach. Provide administrative supervision of a team of coordinators, a case manager, and a registered dietitian.

 

Student Education and Care (20%)

Conduct coaching and well-checks and participate in the utilization review process as appropriate. Plan, implement, and evaluate culturally sensitive, theory-based health education presentations, and outreach events. Craft educational and marketing content for social media platforms and the departmental website.

 

Financial Management, Quality Improvement and Assessment (20%)

Provide financial and administrative direction, which includes oversight of a budget totaling approximately $600,000. Create and update policies that support establishment and maintenance of standards of care. Oversee quality improvement and assessment activities for the unit, employing data to direct resources and drive practice. Coordinate strategic planning and reporting activities for the department.

 

Administrative Support, Collaboration and Other Duties (10%)

Ensure the unit meets and maintains all standards set forth by state law, federal mandates, and accrediting bodies, including the Social Work Board of Examiners, the Nutrition Board of Examiners, and the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. Support a collaborative care model, working in partnership with medical providers and mental health clinicians within the Student Health Center and other key partners in the Division of Student Affairs, across campus and in the community. Serve on committees, working groups, and needs assessment teams at the departmental, divisional and university level. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in health education, public health, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including a minimum of three years of direct supervisory experience, including training and evaluation, and financial management
 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH) Expertise in young adult development and experience working with college age population
  • Experience working as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary health/mental health team
  • Five or more years experience of professional staff supervision
  • Experience working in a college health setting
  • User experience (UX), design-thinking, or other program/organizational development expertise
  • Demonstrated group facilitation, curriculum/learning design experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/EXPECTATIONS:

 

Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.

 

This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.

 

As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality

 

Ability and willingness to work some evening and weekend hours.
