Chicago State University (CSU), the oldest public university in the Chicago metropolitan area, seeks an innovative and visionary individual committed to promoting and fostering excellence in teaching, research, professional practice and service as their next Dean of the College of Health Sciences.  This is an exciting opportunity for a mission-driven leader within the health sciences to play a pivotal role in leading and transforming the College's continued growth in developing programs to educate students for challenging and meaningful health care careers.

CSU's College of Health Sciences offers a wide array of undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing, occupational therapy, public health, pre-physical therapy, and health information administration. Reporting to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, the new Dean will lead faculty in identifying opportunities in which the College can have an impact on increasing diversity in the health care workforce, and in addressing the city and state's health care needs, specifically those struggling with health care disparities.

Founded in 1867, CSU's five colleges—Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Health Sciences, and Pharmacy—offer over 70 undergraduate and graduate degree-granting and non–degree programs.  CSU is one of fifty-eight institutions participating in Title III grants for Predominantly Black Institutions.

Candidates must have an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited university and be eligible for a faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in one of the disciplines within the College of Health Sciences.  We seek candidates with proven experience as a strategic leader who can inspire faculty and staff to work together to build outstanding academic programs.  The ideal candidate will possess strong financial and management skills with the ability to effectively partner with a broad range of constituents internally and externally.

Applications should include a curriculum vitae and cover letter that should be sent electronically to CSUDeanHealthSci@wittkieffer.com.  Inquiries may be directed to Claudia Teschky at 630-575-6172 or Diane Smith at 267-766-0410, the WittKieffer consultants supporting this search.

Chicago State University supports the principles of equal opportunity and diversity in employment and education. The University seeks to insure that no person will encounter discrimination in employment or education on the basis of age, color, disability, sex, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran's status. This policy is applicable to both the employment practices and administration of programs and activities within the University. It is the policy of the University that no person shall be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits, of, or in any way be subject to discrimination in any program or activity at the University.

Chicago State University applies this commitment to all employment and educational practices, including but not limited to, recruitment of staff and students, admissions, hiring and training procedures, advancement and retention policies, and curriculum/course materials. More specifically, Chicago State University is committed to diversification of all its internal divisions by race and gender. This commitment stems not only from legal and moral considerations, but also from a conviction that an institution of higher learning is enriched by the presence of diversity and that narrow cultural biases serve to limit rather than enhance the teaching, research and service functions which are the hallmarks of Chicago State University’s mission.

Compliance with this Diversity and Equal Employment Opportunity Policy is the responsibility of all administrators and others whose duties are related to any personnel decisions regarding employees and students. Further, it is Chicago State University’s obligation to fully participate in the implementation of all applicable federal, state, and local laws dealing with nondiscrimination.
