Position Summary:

The UW Biotechnology Center DNA Sequencing Core Facility is a state of the art molecular biology lab. We are constantly advancing our techniques and knowledge base to bring the best possible resources for research needs. We thrive on collaborations for new and exciting projects as well as providing the basic data that drives research. The DNA Sequencing Research Specialist will join a team of researchers to create next generation sequencing libraries, perform DNA extraction services, and provide general support for the laboratory for the duration of new projects.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Minimum of BS in Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related field.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-Minimum of a B.S. with one year of laboratory experience, two years preferred, which may have been accumulated during academic study.
-Knowledge and experience in general research laboratory practices and molecular biology techniques (SNP genotyping, PCR/qPCR, DNA/RNA extractions, gel electrophoresis, or similar skills).
-Excellent record documentation skills, excellent organization skills and attention to detail, knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety and operations protocols, and the ability to work independently and to consistently follow laboratory protocols.
-Good communication and interpersonal skills are also essential.
-Basic computer skills.

Additional Information:

All staff are required to complete and stay current on HIPAA, Human Subjects, and other relevant training.
