The Assistant Director for the Office of Learning Communities assists with the development, implementation, and assessment of more than twenty-five residential living learning communities (LLCs) serving approximately 1100 students. They also serve as one of the primary contact people for the faculty and staff teams who work with the individual learning communities. The Assistant Director supervises the Coordinator for Learning Communities. This position also leads the assessment and evaluation of the impact of living learning communities on the student experience, directs the vision for LLC student staff implementation, and coordinates training and ongoing development for the LLC faculty and staff. The Assistant Director is also charged with the development and teaching of a Gallup Clifton Strengths based LLC course as well as the design and implementation of the LLC Industry Fellows program. This position also serves as a member of the leadership team for the Office of Student Living. Qualifications
Master’s degree required and 3 years of progressive experience post-master’s in a higher education setting. 4 years progressive experience post-masters and experience with the design and implementation of living learning communities strongly preferred. Job Specific Qualifications
The Assistant Director of Learning Communities must be well versed in aspects of residential living, student development theory and the design and implementation of living learning communities. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the following areas:

The Assistant Director also supports the development of an inclusive living learning community experience and demonstrates cultural competency in race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, ability, gender, gender identity expression, sexual orientation, religion or national origin.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, On-line, E-mail.
  • Skills in assessment and evaluation software; i.e. Qualtrics, Machforms.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, budget, and interpersonal skills.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Good customer service attitude.
Responsibilities
Assists the director with leading the creation and implementation of the overall vision for living learning communities at Syracuse University, including the collaboration with university stakeholders as well as the recruitment of living learning community students. Specifically, this position:
  • Leads the recruitment and enrollment efforts for the upper-class living learning communities targeting sophomore, junior, and senior students;
  • Directs the vision for LLC student staff ( LLCRA and LLC Peer Mentors), which includes supervising the Coordinator of Learning Communities in the implementation of said vision;
  • Coordinates the training and on-going development of the faculty and staff working with the living learning community program.




Directs the design and implementation of two signature areas of the LC Program; the Gallup Clifton Strengths based academic course for LLC students and the LLC Industry Fellows program that connects LLC students with local industries to provide experiential engagement opportunities.

Leads the design and implementation of 5-10 individual living learning communities; including regular meetings, design and implementation of LLC engagement initiatives, and connecting with LLC students. Functional supervision of the live-in Office of Student Living staff members concerning their work with living learning communities.

Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates the Coordinator of Learning Communities.

Leads the assessment, evaluation, and reporting of the impact of living learning communities on the student experience which includes assessing broad LLC program goals and outcomes, LLC specific outcomes, and student participation tracking, reporting, and accountability efforts related to the LLC engagement model. Act as a liaison with the Office Institutional Research and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment.
