The Autism Behavioral Studies major (http://www.sju.edu/majorsprograms/undergraduate/majors/autism-behavioral-studies-major) prepares students to work directly with children and adults with disabilities using Applied Behavior Analysis.

The program is approved by the Association of Behavior Analyst International (ABAI) to offer coursework toward certification leading to Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA), an important credential in the field of special education, including autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The Special Education department also offers a graduate program in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Candidates should desire the opportunity to work with department colleagues to continue to grow a vibrant and sustainable program of students within the context of a Jesuit Institution committed to a broad-based liberal arts education.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will primarily teach courses in support of the Autism Behavioral Studies program, with the standard teaching load for the position being 8 courses per academic year (typically, 4 courses per semester), and may be called upon to teach other courses in the department, as needed.

Duties for this position include service to the department, demonstration of teaching effectiveness, and providing advising support and guidance to students.

Candidates with a Master’s degree in Special Education or a closely related field with a strong commitment to teach undergraduate and graduate courses will be considered (and would hold the title “Visiting Instructor”).

  • Candidates must hold an active certification as a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral (BCBA-D).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Special Education or a closely related field with a strong commitment to teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Candidates with ABD will be considered (and would hold the title “Visiting Instructor” until successful completion of their degree).
  • Direct experience using the principles of ABA, including developing, using, and collecting data on behavior intervention plans
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with disabilities
