Position Details

The Department of History at Texas Christian University invites applications for an endowed position, the Neville G. Penrose Chair in History and Latin American Studies, at the rank of advanced associate or full professor, to begin August 2022. We seek an experienced scholar to provide intellectual leadership for our graduate program, department, and university. Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Latin American history, supervising honors theses, and directing students at the M.A. and Ph.D. levels. Candidates must carry out a scholarly research and publication agenda and contribute service at the department, college, and university levels. The position carries a 1/1 teaching load, a competitive salary, and a discretionary research fund. This position will begin in Fall 2022, and it will be part of a multi-position Diversity, Equity and Inclusion cluster hire by TCU's AddRan College of Liberal Arts on race, ethnicity, and social justice which also involves searches in history, sociology, and religion. AddRan desires to build a cohort of teacher-scholars across disciplines and areas of specialization interested in teaching and conducting research on race, racism, ethnicity, and social justice. As part of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion cluster hire, AddRan College will provide the cohort with opportunities and resources to participate in mentoring and peer-support circles, research & writing workshops, and other ongoing professional development.

Candidates must possess a record of successful undergraduate teaching, mentoring graduate students, academic service, and publication commensurate to their experience (a minimum of two published monographs or the equivalent). School/College Description
Named for TCU’s founders, Addison and Randolph Clark, the AddRan College of Liberal Arts is home to the core academic disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The College includes approximately 155 full-time faculty members, 11 departments (Criminal Justice, Economics, English, Geography, History, Modern Language Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology & Anthropology, and Spanish and Hispanic Studies), and two units of Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (Army and Air Force). AddRan College departments confer 15 Bachelor of Arts and six Bachelor of Science degrees, a Bachelor of General Studies, an online master’s degree in Criminal Justice, a Master of Liberal Arts degree, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in History, English, and Rhetoric and Composition.
