Job Summary/Basic Function



Maryville University is accepting applications for a Learning Designer within the School of Adult and Online Education. The successful candidate will become part of an established learning design team responsible for partnering with faculty and Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) to design and develop online course materials centered on student engagement and instructionally sound learning practices. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a culturally diverse, equitable, and inclusive atmosphere for faculty, staff, and students.

Note: Learning Design positions can be primarily or fully remote positions, with limited or no on-campus presence.



Minimum Qualifications



• Proven instructional design and development experience within the area of professional
development, workforce education, and online training
• Proven effective experience working and consulting with subject matter experts and all levels
of internal and external partners
• Strong understanding of the principles of UI and UX as it relates to the development of
learning experiences.
• Knowledge of current techniques, tools, and procedures used in the design, development,
and evaluation of technology-enhanced and online courses and programs
• Proven ability to lead and develop projects throughout the full project life cycle (concept-
storyboard-final product)
• Ability to lead sessions with faculty, SMEs, and/or stakeholders to analyze needs and map
business requirements to learning programs; comfortable creating design documents that
will achieve the defined program needs
• Demonstrated experience and advanced knowledge of graphic design elements and tools
appropriate for online instruction
• Demonstrated advanced experience developing e-learning solutions using Canvas and
common authoring tools (for example, Articulate, Captivate, Photoshop, Presenter)
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with deadlines
• Adheres to timelines and project management processes that support development
• Prior experience working with audio/video producers, e-learning developers, and third-party
vendors
• Experience working with inclusive and diverse content and populations
• 2 or more years in an instructional design role with progressive responsibility
• Bachelor’s degree in instructional design or related area



Preferred Qualifications



• Needs assessment, gap analysis, content alignment (matching instructional strategies to
expected learning outcomes), content creation and curation, formative and summative
feedback
• Ability to lead sessions with SMEs and stakeholders to analyze needs and map business
requirements to learning programs
• Demonstrated experience with Competency-Based Learning, adaptive learning, task
analysis, self-contained portable learning objects/units
• Experience with web conferencing tools (for example, Zoom, Skype for Business, WebEx)
• Master’s degree
