Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class supervises and performs duties to assist faculty in the instructional, clinical and simulation laboratories at Westchester Community College. The incumbent is responsible for the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment; frequent use of automated systems and peripherals; maintaining inventory control; performing equipment repair and maintenance; and planning and coordinating clinical laboratory experiences. The incumbent performs weekly calibration and maintenance of respiratory, radiologic and nursing equipment and provides technical assistance to administration, faculty and students. The incumbent is also responsible for the use of facilities and equipment to accommodate the instructional needs of faculty and students. Responsibilities also include troubleshooting laboratory equipment such as ventilators, x-ray machines and simulation manikins. The incumbent will manage appropriate disposal of biomedical waste material and maintain OSHA and EPA records to document disposal of hypodermic needles, dissection cadavers, and spent containers for gases and liquids. In consultation with faculty and staff, the incumbent will create and host special events such as the nursing pinning ceremony, health fair, educational seminars and professional development events. Working collaboratively with students and faculty is an essential function of this position. Specific duties may vary depending upon assignment.


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  A high school or equivalency diploma and five years of experience is required.  Familiarity with campus and professional software also required.  Excellent communication skills and the ability to organize the maintenance and procurement of equipment, and coordinate laboratory schedules across disciplines required. The ability to maintain, sanitize, and troubleshoot a large variety of equipment that is used in hospitals is also required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:   The ability to support faculty in the use of new technology by assisting in programing various health related scenarios into the system preferred.  The ability to work closely with IT to procure, install and maintain specialized computer systems also preferred.
