Position Summary

The KTWU - PBS Director of Marketing and Promotions is responsible for directing, planning and implementing KTWU’s branding, advertising, and overall promotion strategy. Works with other managers and staff to increase viewer awareness of KTWU throughout its viewing area and various digital and social media platforms.

Essential Job Functions of Position

Note: This position may be required to supervise student workers and one part-time staff member in the future.

To be successful in the position, a high degree of creativity, organization, technical knowledge, communication, and negotiation skills are paramount.
The Director of Marketing and Promotions will lead management and staff in the overall branding, advertising, and promotion strategy for all KTWU activities, internally and externally. KTWU relies on public and private donations to sustain its operations. Part of increasing donor participation is to boost viewership and maintain interest in KTWU programming and services. Therefore, the responsibility of creatively planning a successful continuous marketing plan for the station is critical.

· The Director will plan and implement promotional campaigns through the creative use of marketing techniques and develop and employ the KTWU Viewer Guide on various platforms for the donors and supporters of KTWU .

· The role is responsible for strategizing and executing contests and events to increase the brand awareness of KTWU - PBS . The Director must be innovative in distributing marketing materials through mass, social, and mobile media. The position requires creative web design and staying current on new media techniques in advertising and branding.

· As part of the KTWU team, the Director of Marketing and Promotions will collaborate with management and staff to develop, budget, negotiate and employ advertising contracts. It is essential that the Director seeks business opportunities, partnerships, and grant-writing for KTWU - PBS in the advertising, promotion, and branding sphere.

· The Director will process accumulated market research data and report the information to management to meet consumer demands. This position develops pricing strategies for media products and services marketed to targeted consumers.

· The Director of Marketing and Promotions serves as a spokesperson for KTWU - PBS internally and externally.

· Assist the functional areas of Philanthropy and Sales, Programming and Distribution, Educational Services and Outreach, and Local and National Productions in managing their marketing activities. The Director will help them organize and support their efforts to set goals, create campaigns, guarantee adequate community promotion of the station’s fundraising show(s) such as Lights, Camera, Auction, develop informational materials, establish a distribution network, assess branding outcomes for specific initiatives which may include achieving a level of community involvement, ensuring adequate marketing and promotion of KTWU’s on-air broadcast product and promotion of local, regional and national productions.

· Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Non-Essential Job Functions of Position

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, advertising, mass media, sales, business, or communication.
Experience in public relations, marketing, advertising, mass media, or sales.

Preferred: Two years of industry experience with progressive duties and responsibilities. (Four years of industry experience with progressive responsibility may be in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.)
Web design, web content, graphic design, or digital advertising experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Effective leadership, organization, negotiation, entrepreneurial, interpersonal, and communication skills. Demonstrated creative marketing skills and the ability to work well independently and with teams.

Licenses, Certifications & Registrations

A valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable by University standards.

Additional Requirements (e.g. Physical Demands)

Must be able to lift and maneuver material weighing at least 60 pounds.
