Purpose of Position
Under the direction of the Chief Diversity Officer, the Director leads the development and implementation of proactive diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in support of the University’s strategic plan to create a learning and working environment where all have an opportunity to succeed. The Director champions the importance and value of a diverse and inclusive university environment and supports the development of a vision and effective strategy to create a culture for equity, diversity, and inclusion. Primary Responsibilities
Facilitate the tracking and reporting progress toward diversity goals as outlined in the University Diversity Plan.

Assist with and independently facilitate specific training and development opportunities for faculty, staff and students (i.e., implicit bias trainings for search committees, belonging presentations, etc.)

Assist with the coordination of meetings and projects with the Inclusive Excellence Council.

Assist with the data collection, analysis and writing of the Diversity Report for the Council on Postsecondary Education.

Support with the Equity Analysis of the University’s Workforce and assist with the oversight and compliance with Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, and other applicable requirements.

Actively engage students, faculty, and staff to further develop community and assesses policies and practices that support diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Collaborate with University stakeholders to assess the need for, and recommend training initiatives on, cultural competency, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values, and maintaining compliance with applicable laws.

Collaborate with University stakeholders to assess potential barriers and develop strategies to recruit and retain a diverse workforce.

Review Bias Incident Response reports, work with the Bias Incident Response Team and assist with the development of strategies and programs for response.

Support in the development of a method to coordinate inclusion efforts into campus planning processes Qualifications
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to implement and monitor administrative systems to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and students having a range of backgrounds, interests, and perspectives.
  • Demonstrated awareness of the importance of diversity and inclusion to support a welcoming environment.
  • Organizational skills, including efficient management of time and resources.
  • Proven success in obtaining cooperation and innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as an internal resource and consultant, working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a politically sensitive context often complicated by the presence of competing perspectives or interests.
