Job Description

The Director of Esports Program is responsible for creating varsity esports team and club programs, overseeing daily operations of the esports program, supervising student coaches and players, maintaining daily operations of the Missouri Western esports facilities, assisting in the recruiting of esports student athletes, and raising funds to support scholarships and program expenses. The Director of Esports Program will also work with others in the university community to integrate the esports experience into our academic experience and entrepreneurial culture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
  • Develop, oversee, and coordinate our esports teams and club programs, including practices and matches. Help develop team and individual skills to prepare individual athletes and the team for success. Resolve conflicts between players and motivate players to improve. Supervise student coaches.
  • Partner with Admissions staff to recruit and retain highly skilled players by initiating on-campus and off-campus activities (including, but not limited to, esports summer camps for high school students, social media campaigns, and other marketing) and managing the search and evaluation process for all prospective esports student athletes. Work with the Financial Aid office to manage and allocate scholarships.
  • Plan and manage fundraising and sponsorship initiatives for the esports program that align with the University’s overall fundraising strategy. Oversee marketing and promotional activities. Collaborate with campus departments and external sources to facilitate program improvements, academic integration, and promote community involvement.
  • Maintain and monitor all esports equipment and facilities. Ensure institutional compliance with various governing bodies for the esports program. Stay up to date on cutting-edge equipment and playing techniques for all esports that the Missouri Western teams/clubs are engaging in to ensure excellent coaching and strategizing.
  • Perform various administrative duties including making travel arrangements, preparing and managing the departmental budget and purchasing necessary supplies and equipment. Maintain necessary records and receipts. Other duties as assigned.
  • Monitor and promote (i) the health and safety of athletes and staff; (ii) the academic progress of student athletes to support players’ success in the classroom; and(iii) the educational goals of individual student athletes.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES :
  • Must have excellent understanding of the rules and intricacies of the most widely played competitive games in the esports field, and the ability to play at a level sufficient to coach student athletes and oversee student coaches. Familiarity with team-based multiplayer games such as League of Legends, Hearthstone, Rocket League and others is required;
  • Experience in teaching, and in identifying and analyzing strengths and weaknesses of players and developing strategies for competitive esports at the collegiate level is desired. Firm commitment to a student-centered culture and the academic success of students is required;

  • Ideal candidate will be able to assist with student-player recruitment, acquisition of sponsorships, and fundraising.
  • Experience working with both software and hardware associated with esports is required.
  • Responsible for directing and monitoring the work of student and/or temporary workers;
  • Ability to organize, work in a team environment, motivate and manage a college esports varsity team and club program is required;
  • Experience managing people is required. Experience managing budgets is preferred;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required;
  • Strong motivational skills, public relation skills and marketing capabilities are required;
  • Communication, as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • 1-3 years of competitive esports experience involving multiplayer online video games that have team based elements; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s preferred
  • Previous experience working in esports is preferred;
Physical Demands
  • Light Work:
    • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
