Job Summary

The Office of Communications and Marketing in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering is seeking candidates for a Communications and Marketing Specialist I/II/ III (Graphic Designer). The Office of Engineering Communications and Marketing is involved in a wide variety of events and projects, requiring flexibility in both strategic and operational planning and development.

Essential Functions

  • Develops marketing and communication print and digital collateral to promote the vision, mission, goals and achievements of a school, college, department, alumni or University program directly engaged in instruction, research or outreach.
  • Develops graphic design in a variety of mediums, including print and digital, in the following areas: internal and external publications, brochures, newsletters, magazines, posters, press packages, development and fundraising materials and website collateral.
  • Coordinates style and design with internal and external partners and contractors.
  • Solicits quotes for purchasing and works with university trademark and licensing on branding materials.
  • Advises and consults with administrators, faculty and staff concerning design projects, promotional materials and expected deliverables.
  • Provides original creative ideas and artwork to support projects requests.
  • Maintain files, databases and electronic records of materials in Box software, as well as other platforms.
  • Coordinates high-volume projects consisting of designing, producing, ordering, billing and tracking promotional items for internal clients.
  • Coordinates high-volume printing projects and printing equipment for internal and external clients, including printing, cutting, folding, binding, etc.

Requirements for Additional Job Levels

Level I requires a Bachelors degree in a discipline appropriate to position with no experience.

Level II requires a Bachelor’s degree in a discipline appropriate to position plus 2 years of experience in marketing and communications services to include print and digital journalism.

Level III requires a Bachelor’s degree in a discipline appropriate to position plus 4 years of experience in marketing and communications services to include print and digital journalism.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Excellent communication, collaborative, and interpersonal skills are essential.

The candidate is expected to be fluent in AP Style for both digital and print platforms, from the generation of content to the coordination of layout and production with graphic artists and web designers.

Desired Qualifications

Desired qualifications include: experience in areas previously noted in the job summary; project management of a variety of print, web and social media projects; proven ability to work in a team environment. A desired candidate will demonstrate a willingness to stay on top of the latest technologies and build on existing skills. Some photography experience is helpful. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe graphic processing software or similar is also desired. Experience using Quickbooks, a paper cutter, lamination machine, paper folding machine, small spiral & coil book binding machine are also a plus.
