The College of Lake County is searching for a Career Services Specialist (part-time) to join the Career and Job Placement Center. The Career Services Specialist is the primary contact for specific academic division programs to provide students and alumni with employability skills for job placement, coaching and development of valuable job placement techniques, strategies, and tools needed to become job search ready.

Regular Part-Time Board established positions earn Vacation and Sick Leave and Tuition waiver for CLC classes and Tuition Reimbursement for advanced degrees. In addition, employees are eligible to participate in the State University Retirement System ( SURS ) Required Qualification
  1. Bachelor’s degree required in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  2. A minimum of 3 years of job placement experience.
  3. Experience with employer recruitment processes and monitoring employment trends.
  4. Comprehensive knowledge of best practices including job market trends, employer relations and recruitment methodologies, and application of technology in the delivery of services.
  5. Experience with database management, and MS Office applications.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively across internal and external organizational structures.
  7. Strong follow-up and follow-through skills.
  8. Outstanding communication skills that emphasize effective listening.
  9. Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

• Monday through Thursday between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Student and Customer Service: (60%)
  • Manage a caseload which coaches students on employability skills requested by area employers for internship and employment opportunities.
  • Ability to assist students in job search, applying for jobs and conducts training workshops and new hire orientations.
  • Mentors students or supervisors to foster development of satisfactory job performance and development.
  • Provide information and coaching to students, faculty and the public regarding program content, policies and resources available.
  • Represent the office in a variety of college, community and other networking events, with employer organizations, including but not limited to various local, state and regional organizations, to increase internship and employment opportunities for students and to monitor industry trends.
  • Conduct supervisor or student orientation.
  • Provides current information to students on the latest trends and tools used to become job search ready in order to facilitate securing jobs. These include, but are not limited to, resume writing, interviewing techniques, job search strategies and tools, and the use of social media in their job search. May conduct individual student assessment to better create a specific job search plan.
  • Ability to pre-screen, identify and interview qualified potential applicants, promotes work opportunities to students and graduates and notifies of and refer applicants to vacant positions.




Project Leadership: (20%)
  • Ability to market and advertise services through a series of networks and communication platforms.
  • Develops and provides feedback on events and opportunities to share with department chairs and faculty on information gathered from area employers regarding current job trends, salary levels, education requirements needed by employees, current and potential employment needs, and satisfaction of the students/graduates placed in jobs.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate and implement sector-based/career-cluster/industry job fairs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.


Department Operations and Procedures: (15%)
  • Ability to assist students in job search, applying for jobs and conducts training workshops and new hire orientations.
  • Keep thorough records of all recruitment activity, including reporting and tracking applicant data.
  • Ability to work closely with faculty and faculty chairs to develop opportunities for student jobs and internships.
  • Prepare regular informational and statistical reports regarding job placement success weekly and monthly.
  • May participate on various college committees and other institutional activities related to job.


Other: (5%)
  • Ability to travel to and from employer or area sites is required.
