Description
The Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands & Instrumental Music will oversee and lead the instrumental program (consisting of majors and non-majors) as well as manage the instrumental budget and instrumental library. Teaching assignments may include directing ensembles and teaching courses in conducting, pedagogy, and/or music education. Appointee is expected to enact active and effective recruitment and program building efforts in the band and instrumental areas, including outreach with local high schools and community groups, building relationships with local band directors, and conference attendance.

The appointee will oversee and execute organizational planning for all band and instrumental undertakings, including preparation and promotion of the annual concert season, tours, service to campus events, etc. Appointee is expected to work effectively with faculty and staff colleagues in the Music Program and across campus, including but not limited to Instrumental Music, Music Therapy, and Musical Theatre. They will collaborate with instrumental adjunct instructors, applied lessons instructors and collaborative pianists, as well as with the School of Education regarding Music Education curriculum and licensure.

Additional duties will include academic advising, participation in scholarship auditions and award decisions, adjudication of instrumental juries and recital hearings, departmental and university service, and ongoing appropriate scholarly work and/or professional activity.

Appointee may also contribute to the general education program at Carroll by leading groups in cross-cultural experiences and/or teaching courses within Carroll's general education program.
