Job Description

Career Management and Employer Engagement at the W. P. Carey School of Business is seeking an Assistant Director, Alumni and Working Professionals Career Management who shares our passion for empowering mid-career students and Alumni to identify, pursue and achieve their professional goals.  

Part of an energetic and collaborative team that works with our Working Professional in the MBA, Executive MBA and Alumni populations, this position will work with other committed individuals to interview candidates for admission into our programs, coach at an individual level, and build fulsome career programming that includes the design and delivery of classroom work, workshops, vendor selection, and presentations (in-person and on-demand). Your role as a Working Professional Coach will be meeting with a variety of students and Alumni at various points in their career journey. This position will be supporting the career coaching activities for our students and Alumni and working directly with all of our student facing, service operations and employer engagement teams.  Our programs are highly ranked and this work directly contributes to the reputation of W. P. Carey 

Additional expectations include: assessing trends in the employment market; performing research and interpreting career and employment data and job search information databases; developing curriculum and content; representing the team and/or department on committees and strategic projects.

Days and Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Some evenings and weekends will be required as this position works with our flexible MBA programs.

While based on the Tempe campus, individual must be willing and able to travel to multiple campus locations in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Essential Duties

•    (40%) Provides individual, drop-in, and group career coaching services to students in the Alumni, ProFlex, Online, EMBA, and Fast-Track MBA portfolio, with additional concentrations potentially assigned. Coordinates service delivery, including in-person and virtual, plus event management to students, alumni, faculty, staff and employers in using career development services and events. Works on multiple, concurrent projects under tight deadlines.
•    (30%) Assists with development and facilitation of career management core workshops and programming including correspondence with students and preparation of content; also includes other workshops and employer panels and necessary preparation. Serves as a subject matter expert for the Working Professional portfolio and additional concentrations where overlap or efficiencies are identified. This includes knowledge of career trends, career paths, best practices, market shifts and skill requirements for all relevant roles within industries.
•     (15%) Provides outreach and market engagement, including other program stakeholders across the college, creating and sending editorial content, working to define market feedback mechanisms, and attending company events.  Enhancing professional practice and portfolio subject-matter expertise with employer meetings and research is an expectation to understand market needs and our working professionals’ performance within it.
•    (15%) Works with the Operations team to support Alumni and Working Professional process and database needs. Participates in special projects, college collaboration and administration; may include special interest groups such as FTMBA Admissions interviews, Orientations, cross-unit team meetings, Recruitment & Admissions events, and assigned committees.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field AND three years in a related area; OR, Bachelor's degree in a related field AND five years experience in a related area;  OR, Nine years of progressively responsible experience in a related area; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master's degree in (business/counseling/education) or related field
  • Experience in higher education or knowledge in relevant business school career fields 
  • Experience in human resources, or college recruiting
  • Experience career coaching professionals and/or employees
  • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action
  • Experience with program management/design and development in fast-paced environments 
  • Experience in building interpersonal business relationships within and across organization lines
  • Experience and confidence delivering presentations
  • Technical ability with Handshake, GradLeaders (or comparable systems), and familiarity with Zoom, Canvas, Interview Stream, etc. an asset
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in presentation, facilitating groups, influence and persuasion
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, data query, PowerPoint)

Working Environment

  • Work with university students one-on-one and in group/class settings in-person, via Zoom, phone, e-mail, and multiple social media formats.
  • Work with the business schools employer partners, both one-on-one and in group settings in-person, Zoom, phone, e-mail, and multiple social media formats.
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing, verbally, and visually to develop employment materials in various media, create metrics, and provide reports in various formats (electronic, hard- copy, etc.), in addition to coordinating and presenting information. Interpret policies, procedures, and requirements of career/employment programs within the school.
  • Lift/move up to 30 pounds (materials, brochures, boxes, etc.).
  • Travel occasionally.
  • Utilize computer, phone, and various office equipment (fax, copier, etc.).
  • Utilize multiple and various forms of technology.
  • Work occasional extended hours, including evening and/or weekends, as needed.
