Position Summary:
This position reports to the Director of Accessible Education Services on the management and facilitation of all access programs and services the office is responsible for. The individual in this position will work closely with the Director on program coordination and implementation of College Access Navigators, a program for neurodiverse students and students with ADHD, including leadership of some student activities and group mentoring. This individual will also be responsible for making accommodation recommendations for students in the Pacific Northwest College of Arts, one of Willamette University's four colleges.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

This position reports to the Director of Accessible Education Services and collaborates closely with her on accommodations and support services. Leadership responsibilities in absence of the director may be required after performance has been established. This position will be primarily performed indoors, but occasional events or programming may require working outdoors in inclement conditions. Travel between Salem and Portland campuses is required. The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following functions, which are not listed in any particular order of significance:

Accommodations Support:
  • Assists with the provision of integrated, comprehensive, high quality, cost-effective services to Willamette students registered with Accessible Education Services.
  • In collaboration with the director, reviews, develops, and implements policies and procedures for providing individualized accommodations for students (with special responsibility for PNCA students) in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Serves as a liaison to the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) faculty and greater PNCA campus community on issues related to a range of disabilities, classroom and curricular accommodations, and laws related to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504; promotes broad understanding of universal design.
  • Conducts initial appointments with PNCA students, gathers accurate information of disability-related barriers and impacts (information can include a combination of self-report of disability impacts, historical verification of accommodations, and medical documentation of disability) to assess eligibility; makes recommendations of accommodations to the director.
  • Maintains accurate records of student meetings, enters case notes into Accessible Information Management System, ensures all entries are up-to-date, consistent, and accurate.
  • Conducts appointments and implements concussion accommodations in accordance with Willamette's concussion protocol.
  • Collaborates with program's Administrative Assistant on the provision of Alt Text,, test proctoring, and note taking accommodations.


Student Support:
  • Collaborates and consults effectively with multiple stakeholders including colleagues in the Student Success Hub, Bishop Wellness Center, Athletics, Housing and Conferences, and key PNCA stakeholders on students of concern.
  • Serves on campus committees as requested by the director.
  • Tracks CARE reports of students registered with Accessible Education Services and conducts initial e-mail outreach.
  • Maintains an active liaison with Bishop Wellness Counselors on student referrals.


College Access Navigators (CAN) Support:
  • Assist the Director in creating, coordinating, planning, and executing an annual cohort orientation for new CAN students.
  • Assist the director to conduct outreach to recruit new students.
  • Assist the director in Collaborating with institutional staff to research alternative funding sources including external grants, internal funding sources, and potential endowments.
  • Assist the Director in training new student Navigation Assistants.
  • Facilitate group meetings for more advanced CAN participants.
  • Other duties as assigned.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree.
  • At least two years professional experience working in a higher education setting; ADA experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and relate to people with disabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents about access programs and services at Willamette; ability to positively represent Accessible Education Services.
  • Ability to communicate with students who may be in a heightened emotional state and diffuse volatile situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to prioritize workload according to urgency and necessity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion; and to practicing from a social justice framework.
  • Demonstrated commitment to undoing racism, ableism, and other related forms of oppression in access offices.
  • Ability to comprehend disability and intersecting marginalized identities, and use this knowledge to increase access services to underrepresented groups, e.g. students of color, LGBTQIA identified students, first generation college students.
  • Knowledge of the social justice model of disability a plus.
  • Experience with AIM preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google products.


Typical Work Schedule:

This position is a 40 hour a week, nine-month appointment (approximately August 15 to May 15). Typical hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be needed; this will be rare.

Salary Range: $35,000
