Position Summary:
The Analyst conducts prospect research, prospect management, and data analysis activities at the direction of the department director. The prospect research program includes the qualification and identification of prospects at all level, with a focus on major gift prospects and above.
The prospect management program focuses on the implementation of policies and procedures for prospect tracking and management that support a fully integrated system of fund raising. The data management and analysis program focuses on the compilation, analysis, and presentation of data about the prospect pool and fund raising at Willamette to inform and support strategic planning at the individual, department, and division level.
Justification Statement
This position is responsible to proactively and reactively conduct prospect research, rate prospects, maintain prospect information in Raiser's Edge, and facilitates prospect management.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Ethics and Data Stewardship
- Adhere to the ethical guidelines set forth in the APRA Ethics
Statement and Willamette University policies on privacy and data
usage
- Carefully review every resource utilized to ensure that
measures are being taken to use only appropriate data for all
research and prospect management activity
- Stay abreast of privacy issues as they relate to research in
advancement
Prospect Research
Demonstrate:
- A knowledge of donor types and gift vehicles (outright and
planned)
- An understanding of the volunteer and donor development
continuum's and the role of prospect research at each stage of the
continuum
- A mastery of Willamette's alumni database (Raiser's Edge and
NXT) for information storage, retrieval, and basic
queries
- Proficiency in recognizing wealth indicators (locating relevant
information from text, electronic, and Human Resources) and
translating wealth indicators into capacity ratings
- Mastery of search techniques on a variety of databases and
search engines
- The ability to present summary and analysis of Prospect
research results in written and oral form
- The ability to implement and manage research alerts
and,
- A mastery of department standard formats for information
storage and delivery
- An understanding of campaign cycles and the role of information
at each stage of the campaign
- The ability to identify and evaluate prospect research
resources for effectiveness
- The ability to train others on prospect research &
management components of the alumni database
Prospect Management
- The ability to gather data from the alumni database or other
sources and to represent that data graphically and explain it in
writing or orally
- An understanding of prospect management principles and a
mastery of the Willamette prospect management policy
Partner Relationships and Communication
- Maintain a commitment to high quality research products and
excellent relationship management with key division and campus
partners
- Serve as an ambassador for the Prospect Development team and
consistently demonstrate an understanding of the connection between
the work of prospect development and the mission of the Advancement
division and the University
- Demonstrate creativity in problem solving
- Demonstrate reliability and dependability by meeting deadlines,
participating actively in team and division meetings
- Participate in campus events, including Reunion and Homecoming,
when requested
- Demonstrate the ability to present new information in informal
and formal settings for maximum understanding and
learning
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Proficiency with standard research tools including fundraising
databases, wealth screening vendors and on-line services
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with
and serving diverse staff, faculty, and external
constituents
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and project
management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and
interpersonal / relationship management skills
- A commitment to higher education and philanthropy
- Experience in higher education fundraising and/or higher
education administration preferred
- Knowledge of modern data management practices and techniques
preferred
- Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and
the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new software
- Experience with relational databases, Raiser's Edge / NXT
preferred
- Applicants should have a thorough understanding of Willamette
and of the value of a private liberal arts education. A strong
candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication
skills and an exceptional ability to analyze data. Strong
initiative, creativity, high energy-level, and demonstrated ability
to lead and motivate people are essential.
- Thorough knowledge of general office practices and
procedures.
- Able to maintain confidential information, navigate
relationships with finesse, and work to the highest ethical
standards as outlined by the Council for Advancement and Support of
Education (CASE)
- Attendance and punctuality, sense of humor, and a positive
team-oriented attitude are highly valued.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for signature
events and activities including Alumni Reunion Weekend.
- Past experience in a higher education or complex non-profit
setting preferred.
- Experience working in a performance-based environment with
tracking of performance metrics preferred.
TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE:
Business hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Typical work schedule is flexible once a pattern of performance is established.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
Typical work is performed indoors in a normal work environment. This role will be on site at Willamette University in Salem, OR with the occasional opportunity to work remotely.
SALARY RANGE: $43,000 - $47,610
