Job Description:
As Academic Advisors for the online division of Champlain College, we have the honor of assisting in transforming careers and enhance the lives of working adults - and adults seeking to return to the workplace - across the country. Situated at our Lakeside Campus in Burlington (this is not a remote position), our Academic Advising Team is guided by a passion for empowering adult students.

This position will work collaboratively on a team of Academic Advisors responsible for post-matriculation student services to non-degree, certificate, undergraduate, and graduate students. Through developing meaningful advising relationships with students and applying knowledge of academic programs, college catalog policies, standard operating procedures, Advisors are able to accentuate and build upon the personal strengths of our students. This role will:

  • Build student relationships using appreciative advising techniques to drive student engagement and retention. 
  • Serve all students with a distinctive coaching style and an emphasis on appreciative inquiry.
  • Assess and clarify student needs by employing active listening skills which lead students toward self-efficacy. 
  • Adhere to defined outreach timelines accurately and consistently; responding to student outreach within a 24-48 hour window.
  • Conduct all academic advising functions while remaining compliant to FERPA and Champlain College policies.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of student data and personal information.
  • Apply knowledge of CCO programs, Champlain College policies, procedures, and partner units when overcoming challenges. 
  • Build proficiency and/or early progress with all internal Champlain College Online systems (Colleague, Canvas, WebAdvisor, Google Suite, Salesforce, etc)
  • Display analytical and technical skills when working within CCO software systems.  
  • Make data-driven decisions for student outreach and daily operations.
  • Balance job duties while efficiently managing a student caseload, on a regular basis.
  • Deliver articulate oral and written communication that meets the needs of varying audiences including students, advising teammates, CCO leadership, faculty, and cross-functional partners.
  • Appropriately collaborate with partner units on behalf of students.  
  • Be a promoter and steward of Champlain College. 
  • Inform the efforts and initiatives of the team for improving student success, retention, and completion.                                
  • Celebrate change, progress, and success with students and teammates.          
  • Diligent adherence to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)           

Job Responsibilities

  • Proactively advise a caseload of degree and certificate seeking online students from acceptance to completion. Using the appreciative advising model, build meaningful relationships that lead to self-efficacy in students. Demonstrate understanding of available CCO resources for students, offering proper resources based on student needs.  Accurately and consistently maintain the integrity of the academic record. Ability to navigate internal CCO systems. 
  • Maintain focus on the retention of online students enrolled through Champlain College Online.  Includes responsibility for student registration three times a year for fall, spring, and summer enrollment, as well as prompt registration of newly admitted students.  Monitor student progress by effectively utilizing data provided via dashboards to guide daily operations and outreach. Uphold the values of Champlain College Online that promote strengths-based engagement with students and drive toward achieving goals, program completion, reduction of student debt, world-class academic experience, and student success.  
  • Encourage and support students in a dynamic learning community by having impactful advising interactions that highlight student strengths, encourage perseverance, and provide information and resources necessary for students to make well-informed decisions. Develop and apply knowledge of college policies, programs, and CCO processes to create course plans and overcome challenges. Celebrate student success and support students toward unlocking opportunities. 
  • Develop and apply knowledge of the CCO student experience from a systems perspective. Establish relationships with colleagues in CCO and partner units at Champlain College. Collaborate appropriately with Deans, Program Directors, teammates, and partner units to champion students' needs and interests. Build confidence in personal strengths to drive meaningful change and outcomes for the advising team.

Requirements:
Over one year of higher education experience, or two years of professional experience. Master's degree or higher
