The Epidemiology Department seeks aSenior Research Assistant who, under the supervision of the Research Associate, will be responsible for coordinating the research activities of the Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis Clinical Research Network (NASH CRN), Gastroparesis Clinical Research Consortium (GpCRC), and Ancillary Studies of NAFLD in Persons Living with HIV for the Johns Hopkins Coordinating Centers. The Sr. Research Assistant will assist with development of data collection forms, database management in REDCap, and drafting of Standard Operating Procedures for new studies. This individual will monitor site recruitment and performance, help produce monthly performance reports, and monthly edits of the data system using SAS statistical software.

The Sr. Research Assistant will assist the Research Associate with drafting monthly Steering Committee agendas and agendas for other subcommittees of the research networks, and will provide written minutes for these meetings. As needed, the Sr. Research Assistant will review study protocols and informed consent documents. The Sr. Research Assistant will assist with tracking of publications with regular updates to the study websites, reviewing manuscripts to ensure that statements made about the research networks are correct, and that the appropriate grant support and acknowledgments are included, ensure that publications are compliant with the NIHMS, and produce publication metrics.The Sr. Research Assistant will assist with the procurement and storage of liver biopsy slides for the HIV NASH CRN slide repository, including management of sending slides for central staining, development of a slide tracking inventory, and recording pathology readings during quarterly central pathology review sessions. As needed, during the start-up of new studies, the Sr. Research Assistant will assist with certification of clinical staff.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop data management system in REDCap.
  • Monitor clinic performance through monthly performance reports and database edits.
  • Using SAS or other statistical software, run reports, create datasets, and create graphical data summaries.
  • Review protocols and informed consent statements.
  • Draft manuals of operations and data collection forms.
  • Plan, organize, and create meeting agendas, materials, and draft minutes for various meetings, including: Steering Committee, Staff, Publications, etc.
  • Maintain study websites.
  • Review manuscripts, track manuscripts from submission through publication, monitor NIHMS compliance.
  • Assist with the histology repository for the HIV NASH CRN.
  • Monitor clinical center personnel and site certification.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline and 2 years related experience required.
  • Additional graduate level education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MPH or MS in relevant field preferred.
  • Applicants with database management skills are preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Project coordination experiencei n NIH-grant supported setting a plus.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills, strong writing and editorial skills, strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of clinical research practices and principles preferred.
  • Knowledge of SAS and REDCap.
  • Ability to create and manage websites for the projects above using HTML, SharePoint, and file transfer protocols.

Technical Qualifications/Specialized Certifications:

  • Proficient in MS Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and experience with Adobe Acrobat.

Starting Salary Range: $39,309 - $54,053 annually (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
