Over the past 7 years, our team has built a massive database of global cholera incidence and mortality data, which we manage on behalf of the WHO-led Global Task Force for Cholera Control (GTFCC). Our team seeks to estimate the incidence and endemicity of cholera across the world and explore drivers of cholera risk across time and space. Multiple projects on our “cholera dynamics” team leverage this data for statistical and mathematical modeling. This work is highly connected to ongoing cholera control policy and work throughout the world through the WHO-led Global Task Force for Cholera Control (GTFCC).

The Research Data Analyst will manage and coordinate data entry and validation for the global cholera database, contribute to the ongoing database development and maintenance, and conduct independent research using cholera incidence data.

  • Train and co-supervise 2-5 students involved in cholera data entry and validation.
  • Contribute to data entry and validation when data cleaning and preparation procedures require the use of the statistical programming language R.
  • Coordinate and manage data entry and validation procedures, including the maintenance of data entry and database documentation.
  • Produce regular automated data summary reports.
  • Develop and contribute to the development of custom R packages related to our cholera mapping pipeline and other projects on the cholera dynamics team.
  • Conduct research and analysis in support of WHO GTFCC, CDC, Gavi, Ministries of Health, and other partners engaged in global cholera policy in collaboration with faculty members.
  • The Research Data Analyst may also engage in additional research related to cholera with a large and collaborative "cholera dynamics" team in the Infectious Disease Dynamics group at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. This work will be in direct collaboration with Elizabeth Lee, Andrew Azman and Justin Lessler.
