TheClinical ResearchCorefor theDepartmentof AnesthesiologyandCriticalCare Medicine is akey initiativesupporting thestrategicpriorityof BiomedicalDiscoveryand theadvanceand integrationofdiscovery, innovation, translation,anddisseminationofbiomedical research.TheCoresupports clinical research, clinical research training,andpatientsafetyandquality initiatives involving acutely ill and/or injured adults and children and those undergoing surgical procedures.TheCoreiscomprised of twomajor components: aClinical Informaticsand AnalyticsUnitand aClinicalTrialsand InterventionUnit. We are seeking an innovativeSenior Biostatistician who leads theCorebyestablishinganefficientand responsivecentralizedservice,providing oversight tostaff,and collaboratingwithfaculty researchers.TheBiostatistician is expected to act independently to conduct and analyze research projects andisresponsibleforoversight ofdesignandanalysisofall research conductedunder theoversightof theCore.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborateand advisefacultyinvestigatorsonappropriate studydesign,samplesizeandpower analyses,dataacquisition and managementplans,and statisticalapproaches to proposed and existing data sets.Recommendmostappropriatestatisticalprocedures.
  • Execute complex statistical analyses involving multi-level modeling, including regression, Bayesian, and machine learning approaches for retrospective and prospective studies, cohort/cross-sectional/case control studies, longitudinal studies, randomized clinical trials, and big-data studies as appropriate.
  • Implementappropriatemethodologicproceduresforstatisticalanalyses,exploratoryand descriptive analyses, management of missing data, data transformations,and data cleaning procedures,includinguse ofstatisticaltestsand/ormodeling and graphical and schematic summaries.
  • Prepare written reports of statistical analyses, including relevant statistical theory, references, methods, results, and conclusions formanuscripts andresearchgrantproposals;preparescientificpresentations for conferences,publications, and other forms of dissemination.
  • Contribute to thedevelopmentof newresearch ideasandprojectproposalsand serve as lead on some proposals.
  • Providesupervisionofdataanalysisstaffand establish Analytic Core processes, function, and standard operating procedures.
  • Participatewithfaculty investigatorson committees to review concepts,proposals,and to continually improve researchimplementationandoutcomes
  • Contribute to education of trainees and junior faculty regarding design and analytic aspects of clinical research through oral presentations and/or written materials.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Master's degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or related quantitative field.
  • 3 years related experience, including experience in the independent conduct of complex statistical procedures and analyses.
  • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Doctoral degree inbiostatistics,computer science,epidemiology,or relatedquantitativefieldpreferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    Proficiency in use of statistical and programming packages, e.g. R, SAS, Python, etc. Demonstratedsupervisoryor lead responsibilities. Excellenttheoreticalknowledgeandoutstandingability toapplystatisticalapproaches to abroad rangeofobservationalstudiesand clinical trials. Familiarity with complex temporal datasets, “big data” analytic methods (e.g. omics, EHR), Bayesian methods, and/or machine learning approaches are a plus.Recordof researchpublicationsandpresentations.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
