Reference Librarian: Liaison to the Extended University Programs (EUP)

Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa invites enthusiastic and service-oriented professionals to apply for the position of Reference Librarian: Liaison to the Extended University Programs (EUP). We seek a librarian who is passionate about student success and who will play a key role in creating an optimal experience for both physical and virtual users of the BVU Library. The position is a 12-month, non-tenure track position with primary responsibility for serving online and hybrid students (undergraduate and graduate) and faculty This position reports to the Library Director and works closely with the director to cover the reference and instruction needs of our on-campus undergraduate students and faculty. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

The successful candidate will be responsible for

• providing reference service through chat, email, Zoom/Teams, phone and in person.
• teaching library instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• creating instructional aids such as LibGuides or video tutorials.
• training library student workers.
• maintaining the library’s social media presence.
• engaging off-campus and on-campus students and faculty to promote library use.

Required:

• ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent.
• Enthusiastic commitment to public service.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of current and emerging trends and technologies in academic libraries.
• Demonstrated initiative to work individually or collegially.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and complete projects.
• Intellectual curiosity, an ability to learn and adopt technologies quickly, and the capacity to anticipate, prevent and solve problems.
• High attention to detail.

Preferred:

• One to three years of professional experience working in an academic library.
• Library instruction experience or coursework.
• Experience with library outreach activities, including hosting events or building a sustainable social media presence.
• Experience working with WMS ILS and Canvas LMS.
• Experience promoting or using open educational resources (OERs).
• Ability to educate the academic community on issues that pertain to the use of copyrighted materials.
• Experience working with multicultural and international students.
