Posting Details

Position Title Associate Director of Community Standards Overview
Coordinate and schedule hearings, ensure that all students understand and are guided by the mission of Providence College. In consultation with the Director of Community Standards, Director of Residence Life, and Dean of Students, responsible for administrative and policy-making decisions regarding the student handbook. Provide an atmosphere that is conducive to the intellectual, personal, social, and spiritual development of the students while interacting with the Community Standards Office. Assist with short and long range strategic planning for the Student Affairs division and for keeping the Director updated regarding all aspects of cases prior and post adjudication. Serve as a hearing officer or chairperson at the direction of the Director. Serve as an appeals officer for low level sanctions from residence life. Serve on various campus-wide committees as necessary. Essential Duties:
1. Ensure that College policies and procedures, as well as legal obligations, are in effect and are compiled within community standards. Establish policies and define them in the student handbook for the College community. Oversee Advocate (software) and data collection to ensure the smooth and efficient operation.

2. Establish policies to ensure that the disciplinary procedures are functioning effectively and that necessary referrals are made to the Director of Community Standards and/or the Dean of Students. Ensure compliance with various legal requirements, particularly the Cleary Reporting Act. Along with the Director of Community Standards, ensure that Resident Assistants are trained on all College policies. Advise specific clubs and or organizations as necessary.

3. Attend scheduled Student Affairs meetings and provide input when necessary. Collaborate with various constituents to ensure the well-being of students that are having behavioral concerns. Serve as a mentor to students in crisis. Communicate with parents and guardians regarding conduct policies and hearing procedures when necessary.

4. Ensure that students understand all hearing procedures. Monitor and ensure student sanctions are completed. Regularly assess the effectiveness of sanctions and policies. Educate the College community regarding all aspects of the adjudication and hearing processes when necessary.

5. Assist with Title IX hearings and Non-Title IX hearings involving alleged violations of the Sexual Misconduct Policy. Assist with meeting each of the parties and their advisors (which may or may not be attorneys) to discuss the process, answer questions, and receive input. Assist in giving the parties and their advisors guidelines for decorum and for asking relevant questions during the hearing, instructions related to participation in the hearing in real time. Marginal Duties:
1. Perform all other duties as may be required.

Education and Experience Required
  • Masters Degree in Counseling, Student Personnel Services, Higher Education or related field from an accredited institution required
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in higher education serving in a disciplinary role or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of the federal regulations surrounding Title IX and their practical application to the Title IX and Non-Title IX hearing process.
  • Good organizational and communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good counseling skills
  • Demonstrated ability to guide and direct young professional and para-professional staff
  • Proficient in data collection methodology and assessment
