Duties and Responsibilities:
Peer Mentors for the Experiential Education and Engagement Center ( EEEC ) are undergraduate students who help guide and encourage fellow AUM students. They are class leaders who act as a support system by helping students understand course material and class expectations. The role of a peer mentor can be compared to that of a teaching assistant without the responsibility of grading assignments. Applicants selected to be a peer mentor will be assigned to work with academic departments and will be expected to work with students in a course approved by that department. The courses that they qualify to work in will be determined based on the courses they have successfully completed as well as their academic and professional goals.Duties include:
Build community within the classroom
Uphold the mission of Auburn University at Montgomery Provide a student perspective on class discussions Encourage reflection and growth
Lead meaningful and engaging class activities/discussions (implementing active learning strategies, scheduling presentations/guest speakers, planning out of class activities, service-learning, study groups)
Assist students to aid successful completion of class assignments
Responsibilities include:
Attend every class meeting and/or lab session for which you are assigned
Meet with the professor once per week
Hold office hours (two hours per week) to answer students’ questions about course material (e.g. homework) and other concerns
Organize study and other educational activities as requested by professor
Reinforce class concepts and provide a positive student perspective
Attend and complete all scheduled training/meetings for Peer Mentors ( EEEC and Department)
Encourage and coordinate meeting times for AUM events with the class and attend with the group
Assist students in making connections with appropriate staff and student groups on campus
Connect students with AUM resources and services
Model appropriate behavior in and out of the classroom
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, Title, IX, etc.
Complete and submit weekly peer mentor logs documenting your activities and interactions
Maintain open communication with the professor of the course to discuss common needs/concerns of students
Support the class professor with in-class tutoring and classroom instruction (e.g. facilitating group discussions)

Dedicated to helping others succeed
Confident in your ability to lead
Able to speak in front of a classroom of students
Comfortable leading group discussions
Provide explanations of course subject matter

Minimum Qualifications:
A current AUM undergraduate student with a 2.5 GPA (minimum). Completed two semesters at AUM (full-time status). Prior successful completion of the course with which you will assist with a B or higher. Complete the application process with all required documents submitted
