Haverford College invites applications for our available ten (10) month, exempt, benefit eligible Director of the Center for Gender Resources and Sexual Education (GRASE).

The Director of the Center for GRASE will have substantive experience in developing, facilitating and assessing programming, workshops, and educational trainings that addresses LGBTQ+ student needs, interests, and concerns. The candidate will have the ability to work in close collaboration with a broad range of individuals, offices, and constituencies; a strong understanding of the complexities of navigating institutions of higher education; demonstrated ability to mentor young adults from a wide range of backgrounds ; and the ability to respond to new opportunities and challenges with creativity, grace, and a good sense of humor. Working collaboratively with other professionals within the Dean's Division and student staff in the Center, the Director is charged with creating a holistic, student-centered environment that cultivates community and belonging, provides resources for students' personal and academic success, and connects students to opportunities for campus engagement.

Essential Functions & Primary Responsibilities:

  • Enhancing/enriching the co-curricular life of students by establishing relationships with all students and facilitating programs in collaboration with students, faculty, administration and staff.
  • Through programs, partnerships, and training, contribute to the leadership development of Haverford's LGBTQ+ students and student groups.
  • Support the College's affinity and LGBTQ+ identity-based student organizations through active advising, program development, and advocacy.
  • Oversee and manage the Center's budget as well as the annual assessment and planning processes.
  • Advise the College's Queer House (QHouse) residential community and manage their annual application processes.
  • Through active community engagement, cultivate a sense of belonging for Haverford's LGTBQ+ student population within the larger Haverford community.
  • Supervise and meet regularly with the Center for GRASE Interns; support the teams' programming initiatives and contribute to their leadership and professional development.
  • Plan and develop educational workshops, trainings, and events for the Haverford community, including the College's First-Year orientation and residential education programs.
  • In partnership with GRASE interns, LGBTQ+ identity-based student organizations, and divisional colleagues, develop robust LGBTQ+ cultural heritage month programming (October).
  • Serve as a resource and partner for on-campus constituencies supporting LGBTQ+ students and engaged in equity, anti-racism, intersectionality, and social justice work.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Dean's Division as well as affiliated offices and centers on campus to plan and co-sponsor initiatives, such as trainings for faculty and staff members.


Line of Report: The Director of the Center for GRASE reports directly to the Dean of the College.

Education, Training, & Experience:

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.

Minimum 3-5 years of relevant, progressive professional experience in student support, community organizing, and higher education programming.

Expertise in the field of student affairs and student-facing diversity, equity, inclusion, LGBTQ+, and social justice work.

Excellent communication and time management skills along with experience managing budgets and multiple competing projects.

Experience building and/or facilitating programs and workshops focused on social justice.

Experience and demonstrated success with program design and implementation, with special emphasis on programs for LGBTQ+ students; Supporting, coaching, and advising students with a variety of identities and lived experiences; Working with minoritized student populations, including LGBTQ+ students; and crisis management.
