The Executive Director oversees the delivery of financial aid of more than 19,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and 27 full-time staff members. The Executive Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships is responsible for the strategic leadership, administration, management, reporting, communication, fund management and disbursement of all student financial aid in a manner consistent with the University’s mission. Additionally, the Executive Director oversees the coordination and administration of the Call Center.

The Executive Director is expected to provide expertise in the formulation, oversight and implementation of University financial aid policies, NCAA compliance, procedures and operations under the highest professional standards and ensures compliance with federal and state laws and regulations in relation to all funds including grants, scholarships, loans and work-study for undergraduate and graduate students. This position requires expertise in inclusive leadership, change management, planning, organization, budgeting, coordination, and direction of all activities in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and Call Center, with a focus on equity.

The Executive Director works collaboratively to enhance the internal and external communication systems to inform students about their financial aid. The position is a critical member of the Enrollment Management Leadership Team and works collaboratively to develop and enhance an inclusive and progressive enrollment strategy for students within the enrollment funnel to after graduation. This position will explore and execute improved operating and communication efficiency of the financial aid unit and establish and implement strategic uses of financial aid dollars to attract, enroll and retain students. The Executive Director will be expected to fully integrate financial aid strategies with enrollment, admissions, and campus retention plans while strategically employing technology.

It is expected that the individual selected for this role will stay abreast of regulations, guidelines and professional literature to maintain a keen ability to provide tactical recommendations to senior management regarding strategic financial aid initiatives. The Executive Director will continually work to improve financial aid delivery and communication systems and processes with special attention toward the integration of both to improve service to all students. The Executive Director will work to position the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to serve the greater MSU Denver community through outreach and financial awareness. The Executive Director reports to the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management ( AVPEM ).

IND208 Duties/Responsibilities
30% Leadership

Provide oversight, leadership and guidance for the strategic role of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships as well as the Call Center. Work collaboratively with the Enrollment Management Leadership Team to develop and enhance an inclusive and progressive enrollment and communication strategy for current students and prospective high school, transfer, adult and graduate students. Oversee the development and updating of the financial aid policies and procedures, and ensure staff are trained on a regular basis. Engage in activities to foster growth and uplift the staff in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Engage in change management activities ensuring change is an inclusive process. Assessment of administrative capability so that staff are working in unison to achieve goals.

Keep the AVPEM up to date on all issues. Provide recommendations to senior management regarding strategic financial aid initiatives. Ensure alignment with the institutional mission and goals.

Lead and support Anti-Racism efforts pursued by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Call Center, and the Enrollment Management Division.

35% Administration

Direct and oversee the administration of all Call Center, Financial Aid and Scholarship areas responsible for the communication and delivery, processing, reporting and compliance of all financial aid including grants, scholarships, loans, work-study, and NCAA athletic financial aid. Ensure Call Center communications provide superior service for incoming inquiries and appropriate escalation to financial aid, registrar or admissions offices.

Research and remain current on all regulatory guidelines and pending regulatory changes related to federal and state student aid administration and coordinate appropriate updates to policy and procedures in a timely manner, as well as communications, based on interpretation of regulatory guidance. Enforce and interpret academic, administrative and student policies and procedures. Understand and effectively communicate financial aid policies and provide interpretation for students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders.

25% Operating/Supervision

Fiscally manage all office initiatives including budget establishment, cost monitoring and compliance-based reporting. Collaboration with foundation, outside scholarship and development agencies. Build communications with the greater University community for financial aid, financial awareness and outreach. Provide mentorship, direct supervision and development of full-time director and associate director-level staff.

10% Other Duties

Perform other related duties. Serve on various committees as assigned, which may include but not limited to Tuition Classification Appeal Committee, BANNER Managers, professional organizations and the Colorado Department of Higher Education Advisory Board. Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Seven (7) years of progressive experience in the field of Financial Aid in a university or college, with a minimum of seven (7) in a management and supervisory level.
• At least five (5) years of Ellucian Banner Experience or similar student information system.
• Demonstrated experience with fiscal accountability and a comprehensive knowledge of federal financial aid programs and regulations at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Demonstrated organizational, analytical and administrative skills.
• Ability to plan, direct and evaluate a complex operation, using human resources, time, funds and other resources for the accomplishment of long-term and short-term goals of the institution.

• Master’s Degree
• At least ten (10) years of progressive experience in the field of Financial Aid in a university or college, with a minimum of seven (7) in a management and supervisory level.
• Knowledge of and experience applying financial aid policies and procedures in compliance with federal regulations.
• Demonstrated experience analyzing, designing and implementing new federal, state and/or institutional financial aid initiatives.
• Experience working with scholarships and donors.
