Assistant Director of Student Activities

Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Student Activities assists with the coordination of student events, activities, and programs. Collects and preserves data on student events and outcomes, and supports all Student Services events, activities, and administrative responsibilities within the department of Student Affairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supports Student Events and Activities – Assists with the development, coordination, and implementation of student events, programs, and activities:

  • Provides high-level support for key campus events, assisting with coordination of student involvement and logistical preparations
  • Facilitates the collection and completion of pertinent documentation for approval of student activities, e.g. meeting room request, club forms and approval documentation, etc.
  • Receives and processes student room requests for student activities and events, and programs, assisting with the scheduling and coordination of student organization events and other events on campus
  • Works with various KCU departments to ensure logistical support for student activities is coordinated accordingly, e.g. AV support, facilities support, event set-up requests, etc.
  • Assists with coordination and support of community-campus events


Administrative Support for Student Affairs – Works with the Student Affairs to provide administrative support of student record-keeping, maintenance of campus spaces and campus equipment:

  • Processes student reimbursement requests, expense reports, and tracks departmental expenditures
  • Enters and updates faculty advisor assignments in PowerCampus
  • Registers and administers lockers to students
  • Initiates purchase requisitions via Workday, maintains office supplies, etc.


Maintains Departmental Records and Tracks Student Activities – Provides support and record-keeping for documentation and reporting of student activities and events:

  • Records, archives and preserves detailed student information, including database information and facilitates retrieval of information in a timely manner
  • Monitors grades of student leaders to ensure compliance and eligibility in academic standing


Communications – Assists with communications to students, student groups, and campus constituents in matters related to student activities

  • Ensures prompt response to student concerns and feedback
  • Monitors student communication to ensure compliance with University policy and to ensure support is in place and available for approved events


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, communications, public relations, or related field. Equivalent experience may substitute for education.
  • Two years’ experience in communications, customer service, and/or event coordination
  • One year in academic administration is a plus. One year’s experience in event planning execution preferred.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for student development and success are essential.
  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be self-motivated, self-disciplined, and able to function at an optimal level while producing results and working independently.
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized with excellent follow-through.
  • Demonstrated computer ability, including ability to set priorities and meet deadlines while balancing multiple projects and performing assignments accurately.
  • Requires the ability to serve the University and its students in a professional, caring and effective manner.


Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment.
  • On-call for student and/or campus emergencies.
  • Evening and weekend work
  • Must be capable of handling long periods working typing and looking at a computer screen.
  • Demands normal manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
  • Some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items.
  • Fast-paced environment.
