The Department of Biostatistics is seeking a dynamic academic leader whose key responsibilities include working with the department chair to: 1) oversee graduate recruitment and the admissions committee and strategically plan all student recruitment activities and materials each year, including fall student orientation; 2) manage MS and PhD exam committees; 3) assign MS advisors and inaugural advisors to 1st year PhD students; 4) oversee the curriculum committee and coordinate with the Department of Statistics in offering of courses each program; 5) update the graduate handbook annually; 6) manage student issues and special needs as they arise; 7) conduct annual evaluations with each PhD student jointly with their advisor; 8) recommend for the chair’s consideration, the teaching assignments for faculty each term; 9) serve as backup in the chair’s absence for PHHP leadership meetings; 10) serve as liaison to our Biostatistics Student Organization (BSO) and the College of Medicine Education Center and coordinate all biostatistics teaching activities within the college, including those for the IDP and APPCI; 11) oversee all committees pertaining to education; 12) attend all requests by both the College of Public Health and Health Professions and the College of Medicine concerning the Department’s education program, including DEPH and SACS accreditation; and 13) represent department chair at educational meetings on his behalf, or at his request.

The Department of Biostatistics is a national leader in research, education, and service. The department has successful and growing PhD, MS On-Campus, and MS Online graduate programs and a diverse and growing graduate student body. Biostatistics is part of the accredited College of Public Health and Health Professions, one of six colleges comprising the Academic Health Center, which provides a broad range of opportunities for professional collaboration.

Minimum required: Doctoral degree in biostatistics or related quantitative discipline.

Preferred qualifications: The well-qualified candidate will have a distinguished record of scholarly achievement, academic program administration, teaching and mentoring, and leadership experience consistent with the appointment of Associate Chair for Education. Faculty at all ranks in both the tenure and non-tenure track are eligible for consideration. Competitive candidates will hold a doctoral degree in biostatistics or related quantitative discipline.
