Position Summary:
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Residence Life, the Community Standards Specialist will be accountable for the vision and administrative direction for community standards and student conduct. The specialist is a member of the residence life team and works collaboratively on important initiatives including student staff selection and training; supports students living on campus; and serves in the professional staff on-call rotation. This position includes rotating on-call responsibilities and is a full-time, 12-month, live-in position.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate the execution of community standards for students, collaborating with marketing and communication and other offices to promote standards for community behavior.
  • Maintain policies and procedures, including the code of student conduct, in the student handbook and appropriate websites; work closely with the policy management group, student government association, and other campus offices on writing, revising, and approving policy changes.
  • Coordinate the administrative process for all code of student conduct prohibited conduct and student community behavioral agreement noncompliance. Maintain accurate records in our tracking software.
  • Select, supervise and train all faculty, staff, and students assisting as hearing officers, hearing board members, and case managers throughout the conduct process and Title IX hearings.
  • Provide assessment and semesterly reports on adjudication for different standards.
  • Advise students through conduct process providing support and resources. Communicate decisions to students and parents. Engage faculty advisors and other offices in student situations when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with residence life colleagues on departmental initiatives, strategic planning and diversity action plan in order to maintain an efficient, effective Residence Life program.
  • Respond to residential emergency situations including evenings and weekends; maintain visibility and presence on campus and during emergency situations to ensure the safety and well-being of residence hall students. Participate in the on-call duty rotation with other professional staff members; initiate and maintain communications as necessary with residents and essential employees during emergency situations.
  • Provide intervention and referral for students experiencing interpersonal, developmental, or academic difficulties, including case management for students of concern.


Required Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
The specialist should demonstrate collaboration and transparency; strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with and advise students, organizations, faculty and staff from all backgrounds and identities; ability to collect and use data to assess initiative effectiveness; outstanding organizational, problem-solving, and program development skills; in-depth, contemporary knowledge of student conduct and community standards and best practices caring for students of concern. Education
Master’s degree in higher education administration, law, or related field required.

Experience
Three years of experience in higher education, advising and supporting college students required.

Additional Requirements
This position requires occasional night and weekend hours.

Physical Demand
Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction. Position requires occasional manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach. Position requires occasional stooping, crouching and bending. Position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. Working conditions are mostly indoor.
