Summary: 

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President & Dean of Students, the Associate Dean of Students & Director of Intercultural Engagement will assist in the development and implementation of student development initiatives for on- and off-campus students.  The Associate Dean of Students & Director of Intercultural Engagement assists the AVP for Student Life & Dean of Students with student retention strategies and Title IX compliance, and provides leadership for the college’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts and serve as the primary student advocate for the needs of international students and students of color.   The Associate Dean of Students & Director of Intercultural Engagement will use anti-racist/anti-bias and culturally responsive pedagogical theory and trauma-informed practice in their work with students, families, staff, and faculty in order to embrace The Way of the Wolf (i.e., creating a strong sense of community, prioritizing the success of each student, thoughtful use of resources, engaging with curiosity, and opening doors to opportunity).  This position requires travel, evening, and weekend hours.  On-campus housing in a college-provided residence may be provided as part of the compensation package at the request of the Associate Dean of Students & Director of Intercultural Engagement.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assists the AVP for Student Life & Dean of Students in planning, development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the College’s retention plan/student success model
  • Cultivate and maintain an inclusive campus culture wherein all students feel that they matter and belong
  • Serve as secondary contact and campus designee for support of students in all capacities (i.e., attending student events, parent concerns, funerals, celebrations, student conduct, etc.) in the absence of the AVP for Student Life & Dean of Students 
  • Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop staff (e.g., professional staff, graduate assistants, resident assistants, peer mentors) who assist in implementing Intercultural and Interfaith initiatives
  • Implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) education across campus including Intercultural and Interfaith student programming, and coordinating and supporting faculty, staff, student, and community outreach DEI efforts (e.g., LGBTQ+ Resource Center, supporting the inclusive observation of religious holidays, school district DEI programming)
  • Serve as a liaison between student organizations and the Keuka College Student Senate in advising cultural and social justice student organizations
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of programs including cultural heritage celebrations, social justice programming, advisement of cultural and social justice student organizations.
  • Support first-year student retention strategies (including new student orientation and FYE offerings) and promote student development and academic preparedness throughout the student lifecycle
  • Address students identified through the college’s early warning identification system as needing support/guidance; assist the AVP for Student Life & Dean of Students in outreach to students at-risk of leaving the College prior to graduation and conduct exit interviews with those who leave the College prior to degree completion; serve as a student advocate to resolve organizational concerns and student development issues that hinder success with particular focus on supporting international students and students of color
  • Assists in the investigation and timely resolution of Title IX complaints, Title IX training, and Title IX reporting
  • Serve as a member of the Student Development leadership team and support/lead initiatives as assigned
  • Partner with Student Development division offices to offer a comprehensive student experience
  • Regularly attend campus events and serve in Administrator on Call rotation

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: 

Master’s Degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration or a related field (e.g., counseling, social work, sociology, adult education) 

 

Experience: 

  • Progressively responsible positions in the field of Student Affairs/Student Development
  • Demonstrated leadership advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion 
  • Developing and presenting educational and training programs 
  • Facilitating dialogue on sensitive topics and/or difficult issues
  • Title IX investigatory experience 
  • Successful project management
  • Supervision and talent development
  • Budget management
  • Assessment and data-informed decision-making
  • Knowledge of retention strategies and implementation of successful retention initiatives

 

Skills: 

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, writing, and speaking skills, and the ability to communicate effectively 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suite and ability to be trained to effectively use College data enterprise systems and other campus software.
  • Ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment
  • Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions
  • Demonstrated ability to work diplomatically and with discretion with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, including victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, or other types of trauma is required. 
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage caseload in a manner that ensures the prompt, effective, and equitable conclusion of such matters is required
  • Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds
  • Consensus building within collaborative, cross-functional teams
  • Ability to be sensitive to and respond to the needs and concerns of all constituents of the College including but not limited to students, faculty, college staff, and the public

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Practical and operational understanding of adult learning theory and learning styles
  • Clear and demonstrable understanding of the basic goals of a liberal arts based-education

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
