Position Summary:

The Program Director (PD) for the University of Wisconsin Master of Genetic Counselor Studies is a faculty level position (CHS or Tenure Track) and will report directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of the School of Medicine and Public Health. Rank/title and salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected individual. This position is 1.0 FTE and will include faculty appointment in the clinical department most closely aligned with the clinical and scholarly activities of the faculty member. The program director will work closely with other members of the program leadership team to ensure the ongoing success of the program and will be responsible for the supervision of program leadership, faculty, and staff.

Principal Duties:

Administrative
-Maintaining program compliance with all accreditation standards
-Developing, reviewing, and revising the program's strategic plan, which may include mission, vision, goals, and/or philosophy
-Long-term planning to ensure the program's fiscal stability
-Communicating with the ACGC about significant staffing, administrative, financial, and/or fieldwork training changes
-Overseeing and/or developing, reviewing, and overseeing the program admissions process
-Overseeing and/or developing, implementing, and continuously evaluating the program, including all curricular requirements outlined in Section B of the ACGC Standards
-Coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating all personnel in activities that directly relate to the program
-Overseeing and/or providing academic advising, as well as monitoring, evaluating, and remediating student performance
-Maintaining and collaborating with the program Advisory Board and implementing appropriate recommendations
-Develop local, regional and national relationships that enhance the MGCS reputation and reach

Curricular/Research/Scholarly Activities
-Provide classroom instruction
-Ensure all MGCS courses are taught by instructors with relevant expertise
-Mentor students in journal club and case presentations
-Mentor or co-mentor students in GC II research projects

Clinical
-Provide genetic counseling in clinic (specialty area to be determined)
-Supervise GC students and those from other health professions

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program required along with a MD, PhD, MBBS or DO degree

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

For this SMPH leadership position, the candidate must have at least seven years of experience working as a certified genetic counselor affiliated with a genetic counseling training program and a minimum of 3 years which must be in a patient-facing role. The candidate must also have completed at least 10 hours of training/coursework in curriculum design, assessment, evaluation, and educational pedagogy, within the last ten years and have been the course instructor/instructor of record for at least 6 credit hours of post-secondary education. Fieldwork supervision for at least 5 genetic counseling graduate students in the last 10 years for a minimum of 500 total contact hours is required.

License or Certificate:

Certification in Genetic Counseling from the ABGC or ABMGG is required

In addition, for this SMPH leadership position, the successful applicant must demonstrate a commitment to practices that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. This vacancy is being announced simultaneously with PVL# 237439; please note that only one vacancy exists. Having two position vacancy listings allows the School of Medicine and Public Health to consider candidates with both tenure-track faculty credentials and non-tenure-track faculty credentials for this position.

The Directorship includes a base adjustment that is coterminous with this administrative role.
