The Department of Health Outcomes and Behavior (HOB) at Moffitt Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center on the campus of the University of South Florida, in Tampa, is seeking a faculty member (open rank) with research interests in behavioral science and outcomes research. 

 

The Department has 18 faculty members engaged in research on health behaviors, cancer prevention and screening, quality of life, cancer-related health disparities, and health outcomes.  We particularly welcome applicants with expertise in cancer care delivery (health services research), energy balance, and cancer caregivers. However, we will also consider applications in other areas of research. Salary and start-up funds are highly competitive.

 

Position Highlights:

Moffitt features a robust infrastructure for conducting observational and interventional studies.  This includes well-established collaborations with clinical programs, a highly regarded biostatistics program with expertise in analyzing patient-reported data, a survey methods shared resource, numerous pilot funding opportunities, and extensive administrative support for grant submissions and management.  Moffitt is the third largest, free-standing, cancer center in the country by patient volume, facilitating patient recruitment.  Additional resources include diverse networks of community partners, institutional initiatives supporting digital health, and a well-established supportive care program.  Extensive retrospective data for real-world evidence studies and other research are available from an integrated repository of clinical, research, and patient-reported information as well as biospecimens from a large cohort of patients.  Moffitt has a very active translational research program investigating a wide variety of novel therapeutics and experience in basic science, with an emphasis on immunology, cancer biology and evolution, and drug discovery.  The Center is characterized by a culture of collegiality and team science, facilitating cross-disciplinary collaborations.

 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Embrace team science and collaboration with faculty within and outside Moffitt.
  • Demonstrate experience (or potential) as an independent researcher with extramurally funded research studies, presentations at national and international conferences, and a record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a productive independent research program.
  • Engage in educational (e.g., mentorship) and service activities, both within Moffitt and externally.

 

Credentials and Qualifications:

Doctorate degree with relevant research training and experience.

 

Academic rank beyond Assistant Member will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is tenure-earning.

 

Tampa was named an “urban gem” and the “Best City in the Southeast” by Money magazine.  Aside from the sunshine, beaches, and year-round outdoor recreation associated with the Gulf Coast of Florida, Tampa is a thriving metropolitan city with unique cultural attractions, low cost of living, and a high quality of life. Moffitt faculty members typically hold appointments in the Department of Oncologic Sciences or other departments at the university.  Moffitt-based faculty members focus their efforts on research, with minimal expectations for formal teaching.
