GENERAL SUMMARY

The Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction is expected to possess a strong skill set in instructional “best practices.” The successful candidate will teach courses in Elementary Education with a focus on language arts and the development of critical literacy.


Other responsibilities include: academic advising, supervision of early field experiences, supervision of student teachers, collaborating with P-12 partners, supporting initiatives of Special Education faculty, demonstrating a willingness to render service and assistance to the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Bennett College, and the professional community.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Elementary Education, including K-6 methods courses
  • Supervise practica and student interns
  • Advise undergraduate students
  • Collaborate with P-12 partners
  • Conduct research and writing grants
  • Engage in other scholarly activities
  • Support initiatives of Special Education faculty
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Evidence of productivity or potential in scholarship.
  • Experience in utilizing educational technology
  • Willingness to render service and assistance to the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Bennett College, and the professional community
  • Ability to teach face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid courses
  • Possess healthy rapport with students; whereas, advisement is successful and productive
  • Demonstrated commitment to building and maintaining collaborative engagements with P-12 partners
  • Familiarity with CAEP standards, assessment, and evaluation
  • Ability to embraces technology and willing to learn and stay abreast of recent developments
  • Strong skill set in instructional “best practices.”

  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a primary focus in Elementary Education
  • Documented experience as an effective elementary teacher with a minimum of five years of experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to fieldbased teacher education with experience in supervision of practica and student teachers
  • North Carolina Licensure: Elementary Education or Curriculum Specialist required
  • Preferred:

  • Terminal degree (Ed.D or Ph.D. preferred) with a primary focus in Elementary Education
