GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Academic Success Coordinator- CASA Generalist is a member of the Academic Success Team in the Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA). Primary duties include coordinating the Diverse Scholars Program, hiring, training and providing ongoing supervision to Peer Mentors. As a member of the Center for Academic Success and Achievement team, the Coordinator will participate in new initiatives aimed at retention. Retention activities include reviewing and responding to faculty concerns raised through Starfish. Additionally, the Coordinator will provide support to Disability/Access Services as needed.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

DIVERSE SCHOLARS PROGRAM (40%)

  • Coordinate all Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment (ICE) program activities and develop comprehensive academic and co-curricular supports for high school students in transition (ages 18-21) to promote access to campus life and college coursework in an inclusive setting.
  • Assess the learning strengths and areas of development for individual students. Review and update individualized accommodation plans detailing academic accommodations, assistive technology needs, and the development of appropriate learning strategies on campus and in the classroom. Consult with educational coaches and high school liaisons regarding instructional needs of students.
  • Coordinate and participate, as lead staff, in the recruitment, admissions and orientation of incoming ICE students, to include: developing and updating program materials, coordinating orientation programs and campus visits.
  • Participate, as the University's representative, on all planning activities for incoming ICE students in collaboration with sending high schools/ special education collaborative.
  • Function as lead staff and trainer, working with faculty and staff, to support inclusive learning strategies, instructional universal design techniques and support the ICE program students.
  • Facilitate career workshops and access to college career events for ICE students.
  • Provide academic consultation to students enrolled in the ICE program; assist students with course selection and registration.
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with the ICE program, to include: collecting and reporting of statistical data and analysis, coordinator partnership and leadership team meetings, maintain student files, assist in monitoring budget expenditures, and collaborate with the sending districts/ special education and University officials on the operational agreements in place.
  • Assist students in the development of self-advocacy skills and the use of support materials, including assistive technology.
  • Serve as the lead staff in meetings with various agencies, including but not limited to external human service agencies, parents, faculty, tutors, interpreters and other agencies and individuals as needed.
  • Accountable for ensuring that affirmative action, equal opportunity, and diversity are integrally tied to all actions and decisions in areas of responsibility.
  • Seek or support grant applications and, upon awarding of such grants, fulfill requirements for such.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT (40%)

  • Participate in retention initiatives, including Starfish and other outreaches.
  • Hire and supervise Work Study students
  • Hire and supervise Academic Strategy Peer Tutors
  • Triage new and current students who come for support to determine immediacy of need; address the needs or refer as appropriate.
  • Represent CASA during new student and parent orientation.
  • Support New Student and Family Programs, including Foundations Seminar.
  • Actively participate as a member of the CASA academic support team and collaborate with other staff on projects and/or initiatives (probation programming, Black and Gold Beginnings programming, student academic leader trainings, etc.)
  • Serve on University-wide committees, especially those aimed at student success.

DISABILITY/ACCESS SERVICES (20%)

  • Evaluate and interpret student disability documentation to determine eligibility and appropriate accommodations; develop, implement, and oversee formal accommodation plans for each qualified student in accordant with all federal, state, department and University policies/procedures/regulations/laws.
  • Conduct formal intakes with students to discuss their ability to fully participate in the educational experience at the University with particular attention to those students whose accommodation concerns are especially complex or sensitive.
  • Provide coverage when necessary particularly with the proctoring of exams.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Office setting, occasional evening and weekend work required.



Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to practice professionalism and confidentiality regarding student records
  • Ability to work with students with a variety of learning styles, abilities and/or disabilities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Portuguese are strongly encouraged to apply.



Additional Information:

This is a 44-week per year position and a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) bargaining unit with a title of Staff Assistant. The salary range is $36,000-40,000 for 44 weeks of work.
