Job Summary

As a front-end web developer, you will be responsible for implementing visual and interactive elements within web applications or websites. This position combines the art of design with the science of programming. You will be providing advanced technical services in the areas of design, development, analysis, and support of enterprise web applications and websites. You will have the opportunity to provide innovative ideas and solutions to improve the delivery of services to students, faculty, and staff.

Typical responsibilities include the following:
Translation of user interface/user experience (UI/UX) design wireframes into actual code.
• Provide technical leadership as it relates to the visual and interactive elements within a web application or website.
• Provide development support for various content management systems including WordPress and Cascade Server.
• Work collaboratively with technical staff, and marketing and communications staff to drive student journey for mobile and desktop experiences.
• Participate in cross-functional team meetings that involve planning, executing, and strategizing development work.
• Review project approach and designs with the project team, analyzing the feasibility of the approach, identifying potential risks/issues, and making appropriate recommendations.
• Participate in web accessibility analysis for internally developed and vendor delivered software.

This position is expected to work independently to meet tight deadlines following design guidelines. Maintaining a high awareness of industry issues and trends, usability, and emerging technologies is critical to success.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field

Minimum two years experience working as a front-end web developer

HTML, CSS, JavaScript

CSS concepts including flexbox, grid, and box model, responsive design, and media queries

Computer science fundamentals including object oriented programming, the software development life cycle, abstraction, common algorithms and data structures, model-view-controller and other design patterns

Web server fundamentals including how the web works, HTTP, and the client/server relationship

Version control fundamentals

API and database fundamentals, REST, SQL, MySQL/MariaDB, Oracle

Linux shell, Windows command-line, or macOS terminal

Adobe Photoshop

Experience with a content management system

Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong organizational skills

Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision and make independent decisions

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a higher education setting

SaSS, Bootstrap, jQuery

JavaScript-based web application frameworks such as Angular, Backbone.js, React

git, GitHub version control systems

Apache Velocity templating language

Cascade Server content management system

PHP programming language

Adobe Illustrator
