Full-time, tenure-track teaching faculty position in Architecture and Interior Design beginning with the January 2022 semester at the Bethlehem campus.  The primary responsibility will be to teach first and second year classes in Architecture. The teaching load is 15 credits/semester; 30 credits/academic year. In addition to teaching, all faculty members must advise students, engage in substantive college service activities, and pursue professional growth activity every year.

A Bachelor's degree in architecture and minimum 5 years professional work, OR a Master's in architecture is required. A Master's degree in Architecture is preferred. Preferred areas of expertise are First year Architectural Design Studio and Architectural Graphics as well as second year five credit Architectural design Studios.

The ideal candidate will have three years college teaching experience (preferably in a community college); the ability to meet the needs of community college students; experience working with students from culturally diverse backgrounds; and current knowledge of academic assessment practices. Willingness to collaborate with colleagues is also important.

Responsibilities

Teaching Responsibilities:

The standard preparations for this position include Arch 110- Design I (3 credits), Arch 101- Graphics I (3 credits), Arch 210- Design III (5 credits), Arch 250- Design IV (5 credits), Arch 200- Architectural Internship (3credits) While the majority of the teaching load during first year is hands on experience candidate will bring computer technology to the classroom during second year. While NCC’s architecture program is not dependent on any particular software program Revit, ArchiCad, Sketch-up and Rhino are available to students. Knowledge in this area is a plus.

Additionally, the successful candidate will:

  • Display facility with learner-centered pedagogical practices.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of academic assessment practices.
  • Model excellence for our students.
  • Help mentor adjunct Architecture and Interior Design instructors.
  • Faculty Adviser to student club, AIAS, in the Architecture program.
Administrative Responsibilities:

The Architecture Department house both the Architecture and Interior Design Programs. Primary administrative responsibility will be:

  • Working with Dean and Assistant Dean on department budgets
  • Working with and supporting adjunct faculty needs.
  • Working with student assistants to service department needs (printers, plotters etc.)
  • NCC boasts a stellar IT department providing support to Faculty in all areas of technology (Computers, Monitors, Audio, video, etc.)
  • Oversee the curriculum and keeping course outlines updated.
 

All candidates for this position will be asked to do a teaching demonstration for the search committee.
