Job Summary
This position will be located at Mt. Meigs, AL and is a one-year limited term appointment. Continuation of employment will be contingent upon availability of funding.
Oversees residents of the Department of Youth Services through the development and implementation of recreational, occupational, educational, and social activities utilizing various aspects of the Garden Program.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: manages all aspects of student garden and provides support for the larger psychoeducational-therapeutic programming present at the facility; conducts classes and leads a group on agricultural and broader wildlife education subjects; supervises students in DYS custody; manages greenhouse production; develops curriculum for student garden program; creates and maintains inventory of all garden equipment; creates proposals for funding of program activities and presents those proposal to ABSOP director; operates farm machinery and heavy equipment; performs plot layout; may perform fertilizer application; operates irrigation systems; harvests crops, collects data for research experiment protocols; conducts routine measurements and analysis on research projects; performs general maintenance on equipment, buildings, and fences; and performs the calibration of equipment and sprayers.

Minimum Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of agricultural practices relevant to developing and maintaining a productive vegetable, horticulture, and fruit garden; knowledge of fertilizer and /or pesticide applications; knowledge and ability to use power tools, machinery and materials for gardening. Job frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Job occasionally requires climbing or balancing, and lifting more than 100 pounds. Must have experience in a mentorship role.

Experience managing a garden in a learning environment. Proven leadership experience. Superior communication skills. Experience working with youth in a mentorship role is highly desired. Teaching certificates will be highly weighted but are not required.
