Position Description Summary

The Northern Illinois University College of Law David Shapiro Law Library anticipates having an opening for one Assistant Professor/Resources Management Librarian. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the operations of the law library and will have responsibilities in a number of areas related to the provision of library services. Activities include but are not limited to: using ExLibris’ Alma integrated library system to facilitate library activities and to provide collection, usage, and financial reports; enhancing awareness of the library’s physical and electronic resources through ExLibris’ Primo discovery service, the library website, and Libguides; troubleshooting database connectivity issues; and providing interlibrary loan services. The successful candidate will also participate in the reference rotation and may teach in the first-year legal research program. The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing the law library and law school web sites and is expected to be an active participant in law school and university service.
Required Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in library or information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or its foreign equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

J.D. Degree from an ABA accredited law school, or a foreign law school equivalent.
One to three years’ library experience
o Experience working with students, faculty, and members of the public
o Experience with Cascade CMS, WordPress, or similar website content management system
o Experience with Libguides CMS especially A-Z database list functionality
o Experience with ExLibris Alma and Primo, preferably within a consortial environment (e.g., I-Share)
o Experience with Alma Analytics report-writing and dashboard creation
o Experience with Alma acquisitions and physical and electronic resource management
o Circulation experience, including the use of self-checkout stations
o Inter-library loan experience
o Experience with OCLC Worldshare inter-library loan system or similar system
o Experience supervising and training student workers
o Experience with in-person and virtual reference
o Teaching experience, online and in-person
o Experience with Blackboard or similar learning management system

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


o Evidence of the potential for scholarship appropriate to meet tenure requirements
o Evidence of excellent written and oral communication skills
o Evidence of the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
o Demonstrated commitment to diversity in libraries
o Familiarity with various campus and database authentication systems including IP address-based, Microsoft Azure, OCLC EzProxy or similar system
o Working knowledge of major legal research services
