Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center ( RRTC ), School of Education, is seeking a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to implement Research Study Protocols as directed by the Principal Investigator and/or Project Director. Responsibilities include:
Collecting participant data and conducting analysis;
Assisting with product development including replication manuals, brochures, fact sheets, etc.; Assisting with training, technical assistance, and other knowledge translation activities;
Conducting Discovery/Assessment process and implementing situational assessments for individuals with disabilities referred to and accepted into the Project SEARCH and/or RRTC Business Connections;
Engaging in business development designed to establish business partnerships for the promotion of employment of individuals with disabilities in integrated community settings;
Providing direct instruction of job duties and related skills to support the employee with a significant disability to meet employer standards;
Providing ongoing identification of community supports needs and support in securing services to individuals with disabilities on the current caseload. Minimum Hiring Standards
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU ;
Experience working with individuals with disabilities to learn new skills;
Direct interaction supporting individuals with disabilities;
Above average verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to build community partnerships;
Proven ability to carry out job duties in a professional manner, with a positive outlook and approach;
Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality;
Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Preferred Hiring Standards
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or another relevant field, or a combination of relevant education, training, and experience;
Experience with implementing Positive Behavior Supports;
Experience working with individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities, preferably in areas of model internship programs and community integrated competitive employment.
