Each semester there may be opportunities for us to hire adjunct faculty as our current faculty go on sabbatical or go on leave or have unexpected emergencies. When that happens, we assess what resources we need to ensure our students have a rich academic experience.

TheDepartment of Social Workis part of theHenrietta Schmoll School of Health. We prepare students for critically reflective practice to use social work knowledge, values, and skills to demonstrate the intrinsic value of all humankind in a unified purpose to serve those in need and promote social justice and human rights. Our faculty work collaboratively to support students who are passionate about social justice and plan to use their education and training to lead and influence positive change in their communities. BothBSWandMSWprograms are offered.

Responsibilities include all of the following:
  • Teach one-two classes on a semester basis in the traditional classroom, online and field environments;
  • Educate and support students in their classroom and/or field experiences;
  • Communicate respectfully and build relationships of trust with people of all cultures and abilities;
  • Foster a culture of inclusive excellence through authentic relationships with students as an educator, an advisor, and a mentor;
  • Follow procedures that ensure compliance with Council of Social Work Education accreditation standards;
  • Monitor and assess student-learning outcomes and provide timely and frequent feedback to students on academic performance;
  • Monitor curriculum content and make recommendations as appropriate to maintain relevance;
  • Consistent with the university’s Catholic identity, its commitment to women, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and dedication to a liberal arts-based curriculum, adjunct faculty are expected to manifest these themes in their teaching and practice experiences


Responsibilities may include some of the following:
  • Act as an ambassador to the community for the Social Work department, the Henrietta Schmoll School of Health and St. Catherine University;
  • Participate in offered trainings for agency field instructors and students;
  • Attend adjunct faculty meetings and participate in faculty development
  • Conduct agency site-visits in the community for monitoring and evaluating student field experiences

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from aCSWE-accredited social work program.
  • Current and valid graduate level social work license in Minnesota.
  • Two- years of postMSWsocial work practice experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching in a university setting or in field administration.
  • Critical, self-reflective pedagogy, and anti-oppressive practice experience.
  • Experience teaching and mentoring diverse student populations.
