This is a full-time, temporary faculty appointment that is funded by the Sister Ann Harvey Gift Fund.

Established in 1982, the Sister Ann Harvey Gift Fund is designed to provide services that support early childhood education including hiring visiting scholars. St. Kate’s offers different program pathways for aspiring early childhood educators to earn a primary education degree. Our faculty inspire socially aware educators to learn and implement anti-bias and anti-racist teaching strategies, create effective lesson plans, assess and manage classrooms, understand the needs of diverse and special learners, and ground their learning in Early Childhood and Montessori philosophies.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach two to three courses each term in the Early Childhood undergraduate program, modeling inclusive, anti-bias/anti-racist pedagogy
  • Relay knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice and relevant curriculum
  • Design and deliver instruction through the use of Desire to Learn (D2L) and Zoom, monitoring curriculum content and making recommendations for updates to maintain relevance
  • Advise approximately 20 undergraduate students, supporting them in developing programs of study, addressing concerns and issues, and supervising fieldwork and student teaching.
  • Communicate weekly (or more) with students regarding course topics, and assignments, and provide timely and frequent feedback to students on academic performance
  • Engage in course discussions, respecting student perspectives and experiences while also encouraging critical thinking and educational equity
  • Foster a culture of inclusive excellence through authentic relationships with students as an educator, an advisor, and a mentor
  • Participate in program and department meetings
  • Assist in the development of new academic initiatives
  • Consistent with the university’s Catholic identity, its commitment to women, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and dedication to a liberal arts based curriculum, faculty are expected to manifest these themes in their teaching, research, service and accomplishments

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Education with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the area of instruction (e.g., Early Childhood Education, Child Development)
  • Three (3) years full time experience as the lead teacher or teacher of record in an early childhood classroom
  • Knowledge of a broad variety of early childhood education theories, curriculum and program models
  • Knowledge of and/or commitment to anti-bias and anti-racist pedagogy and curriculum
  • Experience working with non-traditional adult college students
  • Experience delivering instruction in both face-to-face and online learning environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Montessori credentialed at the early childhood level (ages 3-6) from a program approved by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE)
  • Doctorate in Education required to teach graduate-level research courses
  • Completion of a state-approved teacher preparation program in Early Childhood Education (Birth to Grade 3)
  • Experience teaching early childhood education content or 18 graduate credits in the content area (e.g., mathematics, science, social and/or cultural studies, language arts)
  • Five (5) years full time experience as the lead teacher or teacher of record in an early childhood Montessori classroom
  • Current or past professional license aligned to Early Childhood Education
